Saturday night – Baby shark , Baby Shark

Woke up and walked to great breakfast  burritos..

We are staying at Jen’s brother Frank and Vikis house .. Its a summer house with the main unifying theme of sharks !. I became determined to  photograph all the shark images in the house.. so here goes !

I think that was 49 Shark sightings just in the house

(Post blog update.. ! we found 11 more.. brining the total to 60 !)

We spent the rest of the day driving around the Cape .. The rainy day made it even Cape-ier.

First stop was Coco and Dans

We found a ton of skate egg cases.. which are called ‘devils purse’.

We stopped at the Brewster General Store which was filled with old WWII memorabilia > (huh ?!)

Then  we peered in the windows of the old Crosby mansion..

Then an attempt to see the herring run on the stoney brook river..No Herrings visible.. but  It was pouring so we weren’t too sad ..

Then Scargo tower.. the highest point on the Cape.. ..

Then nearby Scargo Pottery., a super cool pottery studio now run by the 2nd generation of potters in teh family

We winished the day with another great meal  at the Chatam  Squire with Tim, Jen, Coco and Dan

Great barn scene next door

We heard from home that it was still snowing.. but not as much as was expected..  Oh-well.

Such a. great day !…

Friday night – The Cape

We woke up, packed and jumped in the car to drive down to Cape Cod. Tim and Jen are down their staying at Jen’s Brother an Sister-in-laws place in Chatam…   Jen grew up here so visiting with her at the Cape is so fun because we have a native guide !.

THe weather was beutiful for the ride don which gave no hint to the snaow storm that s supposed to be coming. We got to the Cape house around 2, quickly unpacked.. and headed out with TIm and Jen  . First stop was a salt maker.. Super cool.. but free samples were not too appealing 🙂

Next stop was Monomoy beach .  It was freezing.. and fun at the same time.. !

The beach had eroded  considerably since Tim and Jen had last visited. Some of the trail was completely gone. The tide was out so we walked out on the sand flats . I couldnt get over the cool patterns in the sand .

We headed in to Chatam’s cute main street to find Jen’s sister Coco. at work. Coco’s been our freind for many, many years. She’s the one who painted this wonderful portrait of Sam that we all have in our houses

I tried to sneak in to surprise Coco at her shop.. but she spotted me instantly. We hung out qiht her for a bit .. then checked out soem of the cute stores in CHhtam. One of our favorites only sold rubber ducks

Next stop was the fish market.. .. bit no boats were out today.. or they hadn’t come back yet

We then drove up to Skaket beach on the Bay side of the Cape to meet Coco and Dan.. .. Tide was out so we walked the sand..

Amazing patterns in the sand !

Meanwhile at home.. a  major snow storm was beginning.. We watched it from down here..

Then a great seafood dinner at Brax with Tim Jen , Coco and Dan

More tomorrow from the Cape !

Thursday night – Hello Monster

There was an amazing event at Beta this evening. My friend Mary has just finished a  piece of art for the BETA Production building. Tonight she  officially presented  it  in a very candid and fun conversation with our fearless leader Kyle..   DIane came in to hear the presentation

Here3 is the peice !.. It has been so fun and interestign watching Mry assemble it over the last several weeks !

Mary talked about the process she used to come up with the piece. She bagen by talked about    the work’s title ‘Hello Monster’ . She  explained how she had come up with the design of the peice  in a dialog with  an internal voice she called ‘the monster’. The monster challenged and coached her in creating the concept of the piece and its creation. It was wonderful hearing Mary describe t her thinking. It was particularly fun for me to hear how her mind worked.. so differently than my own.. and I suspect most of my co-workers.

Kyle did a great job of talkign about how the piece  fit the building.. How it provided warmth in a  cool and calculated environment. Kyles did a great job  talkign to Mary about  the differences and sameness of art and engineering. . The two of them had a great natural rapport.

There were lots of questiosn and comments from the audience  ofg abotu 70 BETA folks and other guests

Marys brother Tom was there.. he’s a very good freind of Gabes.. was great catching up with him

The conversation did a great job of introdusing the peice to our community. We came away impressed with the work .. and of course with Mary .. who is always amazing !

Thanks you Mary and Kyle !
