It’s nearly 2AM and I’m too tired to think.. So I’ll relate an interesting factoid I learned the other day. I was listening to a fascinating talk by Prof Nick Gotelli <\/a>.Nick hd just been elected to VASE <\/a>.. the Vermont Academy of Science and Engineering and he was explaining his research to us.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nick is a biologist who studies many things. One thing he looks at is the effect of climate change on genetics. He studies ants because they are plentiful and their genome is well understood.\u00a0\u00a0 In the course of his talk, Nick said that if you go to any forest in the world.. and managed to take all of the animal life in a cubic volume of that forest\u00a0 minus the ants\u00a0 on one side of a giant scale.. then managed to put just the ants from that same volume on the other side of the scale.. the ants would weigh more<\/p>\n
