We’ve been battling a pretty serious electrical problem in the house. The lights in the downstairs bathroom, , the furnace room, the fridge and the outside back door light have been flickering for a few months.. now they’ve gone out completely. I’ve been meaning to debug it, but today, the lights stopped working completely..

Unfortunately, that makes it pretty hard to find out what breaker to turn off to identify the problem and safely fix it.. .. The alternative is to shut of the whole house.. but that still doesn’t tell us what breaker its on

And that’s a story of its own.

We’e been living here for over 44 years.. and we’ve never had a complete map of the breakers.. SSome are labeled, some are not.. and to make thigs mode mysterious, 2 more breaker boxes were added during our renovations in 1995. One in the basement.. and one in the barn.. and.. believe it or not, none of them are reliably labeled What I mean by ’reliably labeled’ is that some.. actually many of the preachers have labels.. but many are scratched off or duplicated.. and many more are not labeled at all.. They’ve always been a mystery… (I know it sounds lame to imply that the previous owners .. or their.. or for that matter our .. electricians did something wrong when that was 45 years ago… but.. that’s the situation a

as we’ve fixed stuff, we’ve added our own

labels.. but its still not complete.

anyway.. back to the issue at hand.. today we started to label all the breakers by turning them off one at a time and looking for what switched off.. in the hopes that we could complete the labeling.. and hopefully identify our faulty mystery circuit…

while we did get much of the house (finally) labeled.. we were not able to locate our culprit.. still t was a fun way to spend an hour before work !

not as much fun as it sounds

nite all.
