The first was an IEEE Student Chapter meeting in Waterman. THere&#8217;s was a good crowd of folsk there wo listened to my friend Lars talk about the maker movement in Burlington and the Generator makerspace. It was a good talk.. It was great seeing all my IEEE friends.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_0592.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I had to duck out for a call.. and while I was out in the hall.. I came across an old silly gemeran grammar poem I&#8217;d been lookign for for years ! I learned it while an exchange student in Austriea. \u00a0 It&#8217;s kind\u00a0\u00a0of hard to explain .. it&#8217;s makign fun of the declinations of nouns in German for differnt .. (wie sacht Man falls &#8230; ? &#8230; cases ? tenses \u00a0?) .. Auf jeden fall&#8230;(I crack myself up !!!) .. it&#8217;s about a Werwolf who goes and visits an old teacher in his grave to ask about his name.. it then gets really goofy about the way you conjugate stuff&#8230; hard to explain&#8230; but I love it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_0597.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_0602.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>here&#8217; a literal translationcompliments of google translate..<\/p>\n<p>THE WEREWOLF<br \/>\nA werewolf escaped one night<br \/>\nOf woman and child, and came<br \/>\nAt a village school teacher&#8217;s grave<br \/>\nAnd asked him, &#8220;Please, bow me!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The village schoolmaster rose<br \/>\nOn his tin plate brass knob<br \/>\nAnd said unto the wolf, that his paws<br \/>\nPatiently crossed before the dead:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The werewolf,&#8221; said the good man,<br \/>\n&#8220;Of the Weswolf, Genitive then,<br \/>\nThe Wemwolf, dative, as man calls it,<br \/>\nThe Wenwolf, -there is an end. &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The werewolf flattered the cases,<br \/>\nHe rolled his eyeballs.<br \/>\n&#8220;Meanwhile,&#8221; he begged, &#8220;join<br \/>\nTo the singular also the majority still! &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But the village schoolmaster had to<br \/>\nThat he knew nothing of her.<br \/>\nAlthough wolves were in large numbers,<br \/>\nBut &#8220;who&#8221; g\u00e4bs only in singular.<\/p>\n<p>The wolf rose tearless&#8211;<br \/>\nHe had a wife and a child!<br \/>\nBut since he was not a scholar,<br \/>\nSo he thanked and surrendered.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>i found a more impressionistic transation .. not literal.. but it keeps the fun nonsense<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>A Werewolf, troubled by his name,<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>Left wife and brood one night and came<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>To a hidden graveyard to enlist<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>The aid of a long-dead philologist.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>&#8220;Oh sage, wake up, please don&#8217;t berate me,&#8221;<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>He howled sadly, &#8220;Just conjugate me.&#8221;<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>The seer arose a bit unsteady<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>Yawned twice, wheezed once, and then was ready.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>&#8220;Well, `Werewolf&#8217; is your plural past,<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>While `Waswolf&#8217; is singularly cast:<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>There&#8217;s `Amwolf&#8217; too, the present tense,<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>And `Iswolf,&#8217; `Arewolf&#8217; in this same sense.&#8221;<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>&#8220;I know that&#8211;I&#8217;m no mental cripple&#8211;<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>The future form and participle<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>Are what I crave,&#8221; the beast replied.<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>The scholar paused&#8211;again he tried:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>&#8220;A `Will-be-wolf?&#8217; It&#8217;s just too long:<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>`Shall-be-wolf?&#8217; `Has-been-wolf?&#8217; Utterly wrong!<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>Such words are wounds beyond all suture&#8211;<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>I&#8217;m sorry, but you have no future.&#8221;<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>The Werewolf knew better&#8211;his sons still slept<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>At home, and homewards now he crept,<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>Happy, humble, without apology<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: navy;\"><b>For such folly of philology.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">\n<p align=\"LEFT\">I ducked back in to the IEEE meeting and watched the rest of Lars&#8217;s very good talk. Afterwards I got to talk to soem of theistudents. This guy is named Atreyu (yes&#8230; he&#8217;s named after the Neverendign Story). He told me that we met at the Governers Institute 6 years ago when I was doign a show.. and that helped him decide to be an engineer. It made me feel so good to hear that.. what a gift !!!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_0604.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>freon the IEEE meeting I walked across the Greeun to Billigns fo rthe IBM Christmas party.
