As I am thinking about my next phase of life I&#8217;ve been talking to a lot of people about what I want to do when I grow up. Two good  friends Gave me the same poem in response to my story\u2026 It&#8217;s The Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke&#8217; Letters to a young poet\u2026 I believe it&#8217;s number four. Rilke wrote these to a young army cadet who would asked him to critique some poems in the early part of the 20th century<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/img_6224.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-64673 size-full\" height=\"352\" width=\"220\" srcset=\"http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/img_6224.jpg 220w, http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/img_6224.jpg 94w, http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/img_6224.jpg 188w, http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/img_6224.jpg 125w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>Rainer Maria Rilke &#8221; Letters to a Young Poet&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I like the poem\u2026 And I think it&#8217;s pretty cool cosmic coincidence the two people gave it to me within the course of a week. It&#8217;s actually right on<\/p>\n<p>Bit I, Like I suppose the intended recipient of these letters\u2026 am impatient\u2026<\/p>\n<p><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>T<\/em>hat&#8217;s why I think my title of &#8216;Rilkes&#8217;s Shpulkes&#8217; is so funny. the word &#8216;shpilkes&#8217; Is a Yiddish word that means inpatient or full of nervous energy\u2026 And it rhymes with Rilke<\/p>\n<p>I crack myself up sometimes<\/p>\n<p><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Night all, night Sam<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>-me<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Quick thing to relate of the past week and a half.
