Gabe was off school today so he made me breakfast. <\/p>\n<div class=separator style=clear: both; text-align: center;><a href=http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/wpid-Photo-Jan-20-2014-1048-PM.jpg target=_blank style=margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;><img src=http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/wpid-Photo-Jan-20-2014-1048-PM.jpg id=blogsy-1390277484401.822 class=aligncenter width=500 height=375 alt=><\/a><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>as I was eating my pancakes and thinking about that day when I was nine years old when I heard that MLK had been shot. I remember how upset my mother was.. I remember the funeral on TV. And movies of Dr. King speaking. I was moved back then by his words. And I still am.<\/p>\n<p>I remember hearing recordings of Dr. King speeches all through growing up. I learned from them the power of spoken word, the power of conviction, The power of being right.   <\/p>\n<p>I grew up in the Southwest and I remember unspoken prejudices of the time. Things were pretty black-and-white for me as a kid\u2026 Dr. King and his followers were good\u2026 And all of the Southerners were bad\u2026 But we were Southerners\u2026 Werent we? I remember being confused by it because we too  were different\u2026 They&#39;re not being too many Jews in that part of the world in the early 60s. <\/p>\n<p>It&#39;s tempting to say would come along way since then. But that&#39;s so easy to say in my bubble in the most racially homogeneous state of the union. I know there&#39;s still much prejudice and hatred in the world.
