It&#8217;s called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2013\/12\/20\/sunday-review\/dialect-quiz-map.html\" target=\"_blank\">How Y\u2019all, Youse and You Guys Talk ?<\/a> and it was featured in a New York Times article a few weeks back. It uses a 25 question survey to determine where in the US you came from.<\/p>\n<p>Questions include<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p id=\"question\">How would you address a group of two or more people?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>you all<\/li>\n<li>yous \/ youse<\/li>\n<li>you lot<\/li>\n<li>you guys<\/li>\n<li>you &#8216;uns<\/li>\n<li>yinz<\/li>\n<li>you<\/li>\n<li>other<\/li>\n<li>y&#8217;all<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>sunshower<\/li>\n<li>the wolf is giving birth<\/li>\n<li>the devil is beating his wife<\/li>\n<li>monkey&#8217;s wedding<\/li>\n<li>fox&#8217;s wedding<\/li>\n<li>pineapple rain<\/li>\n<li>liquid sun<\/li>\n<li>I have no term or expression for this<\/li>\n<li>other<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What do you call the insect that flies around in the summer and glows in the dark?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>lightning bug<\/li>\n<li>firefly<\/li>\n<li>I use lightning bug and firefly interchangeably<\/li>\n<li>peenie wallie<\/li>\n<li>I have no word for this<\/li>\n<li>other<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Pineapple rain ? Peenie wallie.. What ?!?!?!?!<\/p>\n<p>Anyway..it&#8217;s AMAZINGLY accurate.\u00a0\u00a0 It managed to name the exact town where I&#8217;m from even though I haven&#8217;t lived there in almost 33 years .<\/p>\n<p>. and that town ?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/johncohn.org\/base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/talkmap2.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yep.. Houston Texas.. the place I grew up.(to the extent that I did \ud83d\ude42 . though no one EVER tells me i sound like I&#8217;m from there.
