Wednesday night – Peryar (delayed post)

Funny day.. we spent the day in Periyar ostensibly to look at wildlife in the tiger reserve here. It didn’t work out as we planned.  We didn’t have much luck seeing wildlife.  The greatest concentration of wildlife was actually at our hotel and in the parking lot of the tour boat organization. The best part of the day by far was hanging out for the afternoon with Gabe and playing ping-pong, playing basketball and playing silent Marco-Polo in the pool.   It felt great to just do nothing in this very, very nice hotel Here’s a brief story in pictures of the day.

I woke up early and went out in search of internet.. I found some, but it took me more than an hour to get all my pictures over the wire. I think everything made it up.. the bandwidth is pretty low so I couldn’t really see what I was posting.  I met up with Diane and Gab in the Breakfast room . As we sat and ate. A bunch of White Monkeys came down to watch us. They are so almost human.. it’s almost scary.

We met Manooj at 9 and hurried into the wildlife preserve, eager o see what nature would offer. The preserve is a huge and busy place.. not the idyllic isolate spot that I’d imagined. We got tickets for a 2 hour boat cruise and climbed aboard. Frankly, the cruise was a bit of a disappointment.. the boat was full of expatriate Indians with their families. There was  so much talking that it was hard to hear anything. The wildlife take during our run was pretty low.  We saw a kingfisher. A large buck dear, a  wild pig and some big water birds.. An earlier group had spotted elephants.. but no such luck for us.

Here’s a beautiful Kingfisher

Here is a large deer of some sort

We saw many of these big birds that acted like a cross between a Loon and an Eagle . We called them ‘legals’ :

We also saw a wild pig of some sort.

The boat ride was too noisy, too crowded and too slow.. that said.. it did have nice if unexciting scenery. Diane, Gabe and I hung out in the back and made up our own commentary… “look.. there’s another rock !” ..

We were pretty happy to be back on shore.. We felt like telling all the folks waiting to take the boat to do something else instead.

The parking lot was full of white monkeys when we got back. There were 10 or so of them hanging around the loading dock. We never get tired of watching them. They are so clever and funny… finding, begging, stealing food. I’m not sure they have the best diet..

We met up with Manooj and tried to figure out what was next. We talked ourselves into taking a short trek in the woods.. We knew that midday would not be a great time to see animals, but we wanted a more outdoorsy experience than the crowded boat… So we went inside and hired a guide.. Inside wee finally got a glimpse of a tiger.. albeit on a poster ?

Our guide, Raju, first helped us slither into ‘leech socks’ to keep the suckers at bay..

We then boarded a rope towed bamboo raft to cross over an arm of the lake  to the trekking path.  Gabe helped pull us across while we waved goodbye to Manooj. The raft was the best part of the Peryar experience. It was so cool.. I felt like Charon in the underworld.. or like something from the Mists of Avalon.

The trek was beutiful and peacful.. not much in the way of animals to see.. We did see some large black monkey’s (about 50 pounds each) ..

Raju also found some lumps of frankincense .. which is hardened sap from a tree.. A bit later, we found a tree of it. Raju lit it for a few minutes so we could smell it. It smelt exactly like a Catholic Church.

About that point the leech attack began.. Gabe and Diane noice that their shooes were literrly crowling with leeches. They both stayed pretty calm as Raju coated our feet with salt and tobacco powder to keep the leeches away. No one in our family likes leeches.. Raju gave Gabe a stick to knock them off from time to time.. but warned tat they might climb up the stick. From that time on it was harder for us to look at the stuff in the forest.

Leeeches aside, we did see some cool stuff. We saw some really beautiful and massive old white ceders. They were so huge and tall it made us feel like ants .. or leeches.. did I tell you about the leeches ?

We also found a very cool porcupine quill. It was as big around as a darning needl and as sharp as a needle. We carried it for the whole trip…

We also saw termites.. Raju didn’t believe that we’d eaten termites in Costa Rica.. though he didn’t feel like trying them himself.

We saw a huge wasps nest.. luckily no wasps

We eventually got out of the forest to the edge of the lake. No more leeches.. (did I mention the leeches ? )   We had a really pleasant walk along the lake edge looking for animals.. The best we got was this sign of a recent elephant  visit…  Hey.. not much.. but you take what you can get… It was better than leeches.. (did I already talk about the leeches ? )

Oh.. wait.. we did see some wildlife on the lake trail.. we found this little grog who had really interesting light and dark camouflage that made him almost invisible. He was pretty tiny.. about 3 leech lengths long..

We made our way back to the raft and crossed back to the dock. We started to take our leech socks off when we noticed that Diane’s was covered with blood (!).. One of the leeches (did I tell you that there were leeches ? ) had managed to burrow through her leggings.. She was bleeding pretty freely from the tiny hole.. Raju fixed her up with a bit of newspaper.. It was an adventure !

As we walked back up in the parking lot an Indian woman I’d seen at breakfast came and snatched the porcupine quill from my hand without asking  and threw it away.. she told us that if we kept it in our house, our family would quarrel. It was pretty funny.. I suppose I should be grateful for the warning.. I don’t think I could have taken the quill through customs anyway.  We spent a few minutes looking at the monekys.. and a wild pig that was walking around looking for stuff to eat.

Then we headed back to the hotel for some leech-free relaxation.. Just after we got back to the hotel I got the call that a guy had been able to bring my camera charger the 4 hours from Munnar.. he was a driver like Manooj who was bringing some travelers anyway. I went down to thank him. His name was Anil.. and he was such a nice guy. I thanked him a million times and we talked for awhile..  Like everybody here, he genuinely likes helping people.. I gave him some money for the bother anyway.. I was happy to have my charger again..

The rest of the day was wonderful.. just ping-pong, basketball, swimming and goofing around with Gabe. Diane did take a short shopping trip .. while Gabe and I hung out here in this great place.    Around 6:30 we went with Manooj to a local Katicali dance place to watch a traditional Hindu dance drama.. I have many pictures from that.. but I think I’ll save  those for tomorrow . We met up with our new friends Linda and Patrick at the dance place.. and went back and had a great dinner with them at their hotel..   OK.. I need to get this posted before we leave this morning for the houseboat.. It’s about 7AM now and raining like crazy.. not a bad time to leave.. More from the house boat.. Namaste everyone.. Namaste Sam..-usps. I’m no longer able to get or receive email over here.. so if you send me mail, I won’t get it until Sunday…   Mom, Dad, Max, Mary and family, Billy and family, Marcia and Gabe    I love you guys

Monday – Munnar (delayed post)

Today was a bit of a lower-key day… I’ll tell the story by pictures again. Hopefully I can upload it somewhere tomorrow if I can find an internet café.

The sky was clearer this morning when we woke. Diane and I took a nice walk down the tiny road to a tea plantation. On the way down we found this big guy blocking our path.

We got a view of our cottage from down on the road.

There are wild morning glories climbing on everything here. They’re a really beautiful color. It’s almost like a weed

The tea plantation was beutifully layed out over some rolling hills. There are endless bushes of tea . Each one is bout 3-4 feet tall and cut flat. The harvested tea is jus the new growth on the top. Evidently they grow to be real trees if allowed. They keep them in this ‘bonzai’ state by cutting them back several times a year. Each tree lasts between 80 and 120 years.

The scenery around the tea country is really soft green and rolling. Everything seems to be shrouded in a mist.. It’s a very peaceful effect.

Here’s a tea pickers view of the field.

src=”http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r319/johncohn/oct1507/Oct015082.jpg”>

We got back to the hotel around 8:30 and went up had breakfast then woke Gabe.

The mist had cleared which allowed us to see the layout of the hotel..

We ran into this huge moth outside the breakfast room it was really amazing.

We met up with Manooj around 10 , hopped in the car and headed out on an explore. We found this small Hindu shrine in a cave right around the corner from our hotel

We were able to catch soem views from the road that were too misty to see yesterday afternoon. The scenery is really gorgeous.

We were only a few KM outside of Munnar. The center of town is nothing special.. but it’s really busy.

We soon got to Erivakulum National Park .. the highest point in the Western Ghatts. The parking area was packed .. a long line and many folks selling things.. one of the snacks being sold was fresh carrots. We and one other couple were the only westerners in sight. It was fun. The other couple were Linda and Patrick .. they’re also at our hotel. She’s from South Africa and He’s from Australia.. They live in London now.

We hopped a bus and drove up to the high parking area.. As everywhere in India.. there was much to see and many signs to read.

We saw several signs telling us about the beautiful blue blooms of the nxsauihiasgfdsarew98 flower (I don’t remember the name.. I made that one up) that blooms every 12 years.. Unfortunately they chose last year to bloom..

At the parking area we were able to walk a few KM further until we were blocked by another sign.. time to turn around and walk down.

On the way we saw some mountain goats.. that was it for wildlife.. but still cool to see.

Gabe climbed a big rock and placed a SamStone before we headed down on the bus

Again we met up with so many friendly people who wanted to talk to us and take our picture. They are all so genuinely warm.

We grabbed a snack of cashews at the bottom then drove off with Manooj.

We drove by a huge tea processing plant. This one doen’t allow tours.. but I think we’re going to see one tomorrow.

We made a breif stop back in Munnar for me to post last night’s blog.. then we headed out to lunch

The lunch place we picked was in a big hotel . They had a good Indian buffet. The dining room sat on the edge of a cliff overlooking a valley full of tea fields.. it was pretty nice.

They had soem pictures of a major flood in 1924… it reminds us of the Richmond flood of ’27.

The restaurant also had this cool pool filled with flowers that made a design.

We got back on the road and drove past several scenic temples, churches and schools.. and everywhere.. more tea.. Note the tall trees in the tea fields a re Silver Oak.. We were told that they’re there to help shade the tea and give them more oxygen.. sounds weird.. but that’s what they said.

Eventually we came to Madupetty Damn.. it’s a big hydro project that supplies water and electricity to the area. It’s a very pretty place..

We packed up again on the other end of the bridge and headed down to the water front.> As we drove we passed a guy giving kids elephant rides.. Not something you see everyday !

We got down tot eh waterfront and rented a speed boat along with our new friends Linda and Patrick.. The driver’s name was Rajesh and he was great. He even let Gabe drive for a while. It was pretty cool buzzing around the lake.

We passed one other nboat with a very unlikely name give the part of the world we were in.

After the boat ride we drove up to Echo Point and whistled across the water and listened to our echos.. Good clean fun.. W had a cup of tea and tried some local hand made candy.. .. which was really tasty

..obucket.com/albums/r319/johncohn/oct1507/Oct015247.jpg”>

..://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r319/johncohn/oct1507/Oct015248.jpg”>

On the way back to the hotel we saw many kids walking home from school. They all wore school uniforms.. It looked like some o them had major hikes to get home.

The tea company actually runs the school buses here.

Wild poinsettia’s were growing along the Munnar road..

We got back to the hotel around 5:30 and said goodnight to Manooj

The rest of the evening was pretty quiet. Tit had started to rain so we sat in the room for a while and played poker. Around 7 we went up and played a few rounds of ping pong waiting for the restaurant to open. When it did we were surprised to find that it wasn’t the cheery and diverse buffet that we had last night.. but was ala-carte. There were very few customers and very many wait staff. They kind of hovered around us being friendly.. but it was a little creepy. The food was good.. but we were glad to get out of there.. ..

We have to get up early now.. So I’ll end here. Tomorrow we leave for Thekaddy.. I’ve liked this place, but I’ll be glad to be moving on. More tomorrow !.

Goodnight everyone.. Max we love.. goodnight Sam !

Sunday night – Munnar – end of the earth

Folks sorry for the late post.. there’s no internet up here in the mountains.. I’m going to post this from an internet cafe when I find one..

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

It’s about midnight and we’re at the Tall Trees resort somewhere near Munnar Kerala near the peaks of the western Ghatts. We’re in a  private cottage deep in a cloud forest. It’s a surreal and stunningly beautiful place. Unlike anywhere else I’ve ever seen. Everything is shrouded in mists and it’s amazingly lush. Our cottage is in the middle of a grove of cardamom plants. The Air smells like spices. We’ve had an amazing day.. We started  in Cochin this morning at about 10 then made the 120 KM drive in about  5 hours.. The roads are narrow, , full of holes and spectacularly beautiful most of the time. They’re also packed with people cars, busses, trucks, motorcycles, rickshaws, cows, goats, dogs, oxen and even monkeys..   In the interest of time  I’m going to try and tell the story of the day from the pictures.. rather than doing a bunch of text. I’ll need to go down the hill to find some internet connection sometime later tonight so I need to keep it relatively brief.. So here goes..

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

We began the day at the wonderful Old Harbor Inn in Cochin. It was a wonderful oasis in pretty but rough and tumble Fort Cochin.    We grabbed a quick breakfast downstairs in the small dining area. The place was filled with fresh flowers .

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

These guys came buy on a motorcycle. They were dressed warmly because it was relatively cool this morning.. by that I mean it was barely  80 degrees J .

After breakfast we went upstairs, woke Gabe and packed up. It was hard leaving the room.. it was so nice

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

Our last act before leaving was to place a SamStone out near the pond in the hotel’s courtyard. We’d been thinking and talking a lot about Sam the last few days.. we feel him here.. and miss him here so deeply.

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

We found Manooj and said goodbye to the folks in the hotel and took off…

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

First stop was the Church of St/ Francis that dates back to 1505 !.. It was founded by early Portugese settlers. The explorere Vaso de Gama ded and was buried here for 14 years until his son came and fetched back his remains. IThere was a mass going on in Malyalam the local language (and also a palindrome !).. It was cool to here..

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

We had just left the church when Manooj’s phone rang.. it was for me !.. The guys in the hotel had found my Blackberry !.. I’m such a space cadet. Luckily we were just around the corner.. I ran back in and picked it up.. and gave them some maple syrup for saving me .

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

Next stop was the Old Synagogue in Jew Town again.. it was open today.. so I wanted to take a peek. I managed to take one picture inside.. It was very cool.. The building dated from the 16th century. It had beautiful Dutch floor tiles and great colored glass everywhere. They had the ‘Shema’ cut in Hebrew in the wall tiles. It was cool seeing that

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

We then hiked out through Jewtown as folks tried to lure us into their stores. There is some funky stuff for sale there .

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

From there we headed out of town.. I took a picture of the old bridge as we crossed back from Fort Cochin island into Erakulum . I think it was built by my friend Vasant’s dad back in the 40’s . I’ll show him when I get back to the states.

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

We made a brif stop at the trvel agent inorder to pay the balance of our bill then headed out on the road to Munnar

Every second of the ride up to the mountains was amazing.. I can’t begin to describe the sights.. We passed through soem pretty rough cities, small towns, beautiful jungles and everything in between . Here’s some of the stuff we saw.. Here’s a famous Hindu temple

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

II loved looking at all the political signs.. These candidates are endorsed by Jesus evidently.

We saw lots of animals.. mostly cows, goats and dogs in the road.. but also some Water buffalo.. like this guy

..t1407/Oct014059.jpg”>

Manooj took us to an Elephan training facility on the way up.. The place trains elephants for work in the forest. They had quite a few of the big guys there..

..r319/johncohn/oct1407/Oct014061.jpg”>

The place was also crawling with huge millipedes !

These guys are BIG !

The place also had a little zoo attached.. Lots of animals in small cages.. Kinda  sad.. but the animals were cute.

>

This little guy could climb in and out of his cage as he wished.. He kept begging for food.

Manooj told us that this guy grabbed one of his former clients cell phones the other day and smashed it on the ground and jumped on it !

We are trying to sample some of the things that are different here.. ‘Mint Mischief’ potato chips for example… how were they. ? . uh… don’t ask

We passed through so many agricultural areas and saw some exotic crops.> here are pineapples.

Here’s a rubber plantation

This is a rice field.

This is tapioca growing.

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

At one point we stopped for a great Indian lunch.. Diane had Alo Gobi, I had a chili cauliflower curry. Gabe had a chicken sandwich and Manooj had spicy fish curry. It was great. We all sat and watched the never ending India/Australia cricket match on TV as we ate. The whole  country is at a standstill while this match is being played.. It’s on everyone’s TV. I wish I understood the rules.. It’s certainly hard to follow if you don’t know what’s going on .

The restaurant had a small patch of Vanilla growing. They actually cook with the pods. It’s delicious.

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

We took this for Chai-baby.. Who’s 4th birthday was yesterday. Happy Birthday Dear Doggy !  It’s also our friend Will’s birthday. Happy birthday Will !

The scenery from that point started gtting more mountainous.. and the temperature started dropping as we went up.

At one point we were surprised and happy to see some monkeys on the side of the road. We gave them a bit of food.. They seemed pretty happy about that. They were cute and fun to watch

<br>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

We stopped at several amazing waterfalls along the road. Natural beauty was everywhere.

Unfortunately .. trash was everywhere too. They haven’t quite figured out not littering and recycling.

We kept seeing these Tata Motors Ambassadors on the road.. they are the national car of India.. Evidently they last forever !

All the way up we sw Christian churches, Hindu temples and Islamic mosques.. the communities seemed to be very well mixed together.

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

As we got near Munnar,  we started to see tea plantations. The steep hills were covered with terraced rows of tea.. Tomorrow we’re going to visit one of the plantations.

We eventually turned off on a very narrow bridge over a gorge to get to the hotel

We stopped at a small tea stand and got some cardamom tea.. it was delicious. As we stopped we had a bunch of people come over and talk to us.. they all wanted to take our picture and get our pictures with them> Folks here are SOOOO friendly.. Several of them  asked about my Sam button. They were sad to hear about his passing.. they wanted to hear more about him. It was really touching.  As we left, Diane pointed out that the same level of friendliness from strangers  in the US might  have been cause for suspicion.  Not here.. Everyone we’ve met here has been truly warm and interested in strangers.  It made us think for a while about ow jaded we’d become.

..om/albums/r319/johncohn/oct1407/Oct014198.jpg”>

It was only a few Km from teh tea shop to our hotel.. right before we got here we noticed a eiki master’s sign on the road. You’d have to see the road to know just how strange that woas. The road is barely a driveway.. rutted and winding.. with absolutely nothing on it..

As we turned into the Tall Trees hotel, Manooj pointed out the Cardamom plantation it abutted.

Tall Trees is really an indescribably place. It’s in a dens forest which has been full of misty clouds since we got here. It’s full of moss and plants I’v enever seen.. there are very cool and different brd and insect sounds. We hiked to our cottage. Here’s the view from our balcony and a view of the cottage itself

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

..rc=”http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r319/johncohn/oct1407/Oct014b002.jpg”>

After settling in we hiked up the top of the hill to the restaurant. Gabe found a little playground in the forest and goofed around on that

The temperature here is in the 60’s which is far different than  the high 80’s/low 90’s down by the coast.

The resturant didn’t open ‚till 7:30 so we goofed around.. took a walk and played ping pong..    Check out the cool moth we found !

We wondered down and found the genrators that keep the lights on here.

Then we hiked back to the  restaurant and had a truly fantastic dinner.  So..

–>if !supportEmptyParas–>  –>endif–>

What a day.. OK.. gotta sign off here..   It’s after 1 and I want to send this tomorrow morning. So far this has been an amazing trip.. More tomorrow.

Saturday evening – very cool Cochin

What a great, great day.. Todays our first full day of vacation and it’s SO nice to get out of the city. We’re in Cochin now.. we spent the day bumming around the town with our new freind and driver Manooj. I have a ton of pictures would take me hours to insert in a narrative. I think tonight I’m going to do the reverse and post all of the pictures and comment around them. It might not be the best storytelling.. but it may give you a feel for what we’re seeing here.. and it will save me some time.

Gabe just didn’t want to wake up this morning

so.. we read the paper.. it ad this pretty accurate description of fair Bangalore. The locals all complain.. but they love it anyway

Diane was reading the Times of India.. and look what she found ! (I think we’re in the Economic Times today as well)

We checked out of the Leena and headed to the Airport. We got a late start  but still managed ot get there and hour and fifteen minutes before our flight.Even so.. we barely made it because of the lonnnnnng lines

Nothing like an Uzi to keep folks nicely lined up

Our plane.. it wassn’t much but the food on our hour flight was the best I’d every had on a plane !

As we boarded they were pokeing around in the engine with a screw driver.. the guy closed the engine back up with his leatherman.. didn’t instill confidence 🙂

The flight was good and short.. Our driver, Manooj was standing there waiting for us wiht a our name on a card and a uge smile He’s goign to be great to travel with.

After a short rest at our really, really, really wonderful hotel (the Old Harbor in Fort Cochin) .. The folks at the hotel gave us fresh coconuts to drink from when we arrived.

Our room looks out over a little playground.. and beyond that is the sea

My little yogi !

Check it out.. even looks like me !

We grabed lunch at a place across the street.. Nothing special. but they had a pet eagle (!) who eyed us watchfully through our meal.. It was beautiful

We had vistitors during our meal..

We then walked back to the park.. two little cows had found a skany fountain to play in.. Notice one of them is really smiling !

This stature appears to be a mom teacheing her kid how to pee !

We finally got down to the water.. It wasn’t fit for swimming.. but there was other cool stuff to see.. like these trafitional chineese fishing nets.. they use them in ealry morning and late afternoon to haul out large numbers of fish

A goat on a boat !

Psr tof the old battlements

We then came back to the hotel.. Here’s our little courtyard

We took a swim in there wonderful pool. Gabe and I played a bunch of ‘marcoe’ ‘polo’,, I love doing that with him

Gabe wore his skany green shir and a local guy gave it tumbs up !

The guys in the hotel use rice flour to put these symbols in every (!) corner every morning !

Manooj took us to ‘Jew Town’ the old jeewish quarter of town.. The synagoge here dates from the mid 16th century.. There are only a few jewish famiuies left..Many left for Israedl a few decades back.  Still foks here  respect the history and maintain the synago and the shopping district around it.  There are tons of antique stores in Jew Town.. Great if you’re not carrying everything you own with you.

Here’s a hindu temple that doesn’t allow vistors

The old synaguoge tower

There’s an old cememtry nearby. The close proxmity of all these languages (English. Mayaman, and of Hebrew is pretty wierd and cool

The guy who erected this plance has basically the same last name as me..  ‘Cohen’or “Priest”.. here it is on the plague.. pretty cool

We wandered around Jewtown for a while taking in the sites

Wegot to the Synagoge.. but it was closed for shabbat..  No big deal.. the neighborhood was really what I wanted to see.

This is a Sanskrit luck symbol.. not a swastika.. but it was wierd to see it in Jewtown

The stores had soem amazing stuff.. liek this 30 foot boat

Yow !!!!

A local high school

We visited two  hindu temples with Manooj..

We met this cure little girl and her dad.. she was so sweet and so shy

Then we went to the beach.. to wath the sunset.. Many folks were there because it is a holiday here for Muslims.. it’s Id… the feats that ends Ramadan (Raamzan here).. Lots of folks were out in therie best clothes sitting on the beach watching the sunset. It was a sea of people.. not my kind of beach.. but the family scene was nice

We then headed back to our hotel

..147.photobucket.com/albums/r319/johncohn/oct1307/Oct013195.jpg”>

We said goodbye to Manooj for the night

Then Diane and I took a stroll through the celibrating crowds. Look how brightly everyone is dressed !

We met these kids who wanted us to take their picture. they loved looking at it on the camera.. It’s not a novely..Everone here has digital cameras..  I think we were the novelty.

We also met this sweet princess.

The crowds were all dressed so brightly

Many whole families travel by motor bike

We took a swim before dinner

Then ate a fantastic meal in the coartyard.. I had grilled panner (cottage cheese) it was ymmuy

As we ate we listed to a flute and tabla duo who was playing in the courtyard.. it was magical

Here’s our hotel at night

..Oct013225.jpg”>

..tp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r319/johncohn/oct1307/Oct013228.jpg”>
After dinner we took one more pass through the park for fun

Namaste everyone.. Namaste Sam. talk to you from Munnar tomorrow !
