Saturday night – State Radio

I spent a wonderful day at home.. just working around the house with Diane. We put up the upstairs windows on.. I now figure that we spend at least 2 full days of window work every change of season. That would make it 4 days per year.. and 25 years we’ve been here.. that’s 100 days of putting windows up or down.. now that’s a thought..

Like everything else we handle.. these windows come with memories.. Here’s the window to Sam’s old room.. now Gabe’s room.

Kevin came by and helped us do some house work which I really appreciated.

Around 6 we had a bunch of friends over who were going with us to the State Radion show tonight at Higher Ground. .. State Radio has becime afavorite band for our family. Sam dug them.. and so does Max and many of our friends.. We all had Sam shirts and Sam pins on when we heded out to the show. The parking lot had soem good political energy in it. State Radio    and their fans  is a very socially conscious   And their bumper stickers and shirts showed it !

The backup band wsa called Bongo Love.. 3 guys from zimbawe played cool percussion> They were very good. State Radio took the stage around 9:30ish.   They were so awesome. They put out so much music for only three guys. It was a great mix of new stuff and old standards. It’s irresistable stuff.. and it all has either a political.. or a flat out fun therme.

Thhis was their sencond show.. both last night and tonights shows were completly sold out.. Last night , Chad deadicated the last song, Keepsake to Sam. Mason was in the corwnd and called us so we could listen to it.. (Thansk Mason).. Tonight.. .  I’d run into Chad’s sister Farly and she must have let them know we were there so they sang it again and dedicated it Sam. It was wonderful. Her’s a shaky recording.. I was getting pretty emotional so i wasn’t doing to great with the camera. It was beautiful

..

Avery and Jane Same this same song at Sam’s memorial celibration and Ill nevr forget it.

The band played 2 encores after Keepsake.. then the crowd broke up. As hte crowd was clearign. Chad came out.. and we tlaked for a bit. I gave him soem more Samstones. He’s such an increible guy. He does so much work for good causes like the Elias fund, ventrans agains war adnn other good stuff. I really admire him and the band

Man .. it’s 1 AM again.. and I ned to sleep.. Tomorrow I’m doing the Project-x robot. Seth is the tonight running it with Herb. It sounds like it is getting good reviews now.. which makes me happy.. Hope it likes the rain !

So.. note folks.. Nite Sam

thrursday night – haunted forest

1:30 amand I’m struggling to stay awake. . I just got back from the first night of haunted forest.. and it was .. kind of anticlimactic.. after all these months working on the project-x.. I had hoped for a really strong reaction by the folks who took the tour.. I didn’t get that.. I got some applause.. and some funny comments, but not that many oooohs and ahhhhs   . All in all things worked pretty well. We lost air for about 3 shows. .. and dropped a hand for one. but all other shows it all worked pretty well.

I’m too sleepy to continue typing now.. I’ll talk bout the night.. and the WCAX piece I was in tomorrow

man..  I keep falling asleep..

Right now.. time for me to sleep much more tomorrow. Nite all .. nite Sam

Tuesday night – EMC

Another insanely busy day. Work was absolutely crazy.. as it’s been for weeks.. I did take a short break to get a hair cut.. now I don’t look like a homeless  person…   It was gretart seeing Deb. her shop is filled with Sam pictures, samstones and pins. I love going there.

Gabe’s last soccer game was called on account of rain.. so I headed to winooski.. to teh opening of the new Champlain Emerging Media Cneter at the champlain mill. They’ve transformed this old upscale shoping mall into a new software incubator. The EMC has abotu 5000 square feet  overlooking the winooski.

I walked in to teh recoeption and got mobbed by my friends there.. it ws soooo good to see them all.

they each dragged me around seeign there projects. One thing I liked was this cool digitizer from polhemis.. First my firend Kate got digitized

Then it was my turn

They had a demo of our IBM piece

and a runnign demo of the new cystic fibrosis game interface that I helped write that allows kids to drive with their breathing. Joe Manly and I wrote the interface.. several of the students are writing the game.. and Dr. Peter Bingham is the sponsor.. here he is with Ray and his wife Dana .. (there is no Dana.. only Zule !)

I saw some concept sketches from their new project which they’re doing for the UN. It’s aimed at young males to teach them to resist violence against women. Here’s some fo the student artwork for the concept.. ll of this was done on a computer using a digital tablet !

Around 7 all the grown ups went up stairs to the newly emptied 4th floor for dinner. We had a great time.. Lots of good speakers to kick off the opening of the EMC and the kcik off of the software incubator.

First Ann spoke.. i as very proud of what she’s made happen here.. so was everyone in the room !

Then Laura spoke.. she was my lead programmer and designer on our peice.. she gave one of the best, most honest, and inspiring speaches I ever heard anyone give for free.. I was so very proud of her  !

Then we had Dr. Finney the pres. of Champlain.. then Brian Dubie, the Lt. Gov.

Then Gov Dougles spoke.. He’s always entertaining.IWe got to talk for awhile. earlier in the evening. .He”s got such a good memory for people.. He even remembered my politics..   I really do like him.. too bad he’s a republican 🙂

I got hoem around 10 to find Dine sill apnting, Gabe mixing music  and Chai hoem from the Vet. Here’s the Rock that she hadd surgicaully removed from her small intestine yesterday.. our 2nd 1000 dollar rock..
Ugh.. glad she’s ok now !

OK.. really busy day (again) tomorrow. Gotta sleep. note all. Nite Sam !

Tuesday night – rock in my stomach

OK.. not a rock in my stomach.. but a rock in Chai’s stomach.. or actually her small intestine. Chai’s been feeling poorly for a couple of weeks. she’s been waking up in the middle of the night and throwing up almost every night. We knew something was up.. but just attributed it to all the grass she was eating.. Saturday night she started feeling worse.. her tail was between her legs, she didn’t want to play.. or eat.. or drink.. She laid around all Sunday and ate nothing.. we new she had to see the Vet. Today Diane took her in for an Xray.. and sure enough there in her belly was a huge something..  She was really dehydrated/ She went in for emergency surgery . They found a huge rock in there.. probably from our driveway.. this would be the 2nd one we’ve had to get surgically removed from this silly girl.  She’s doing fine now and spending the night at the vet.  I cant tell you howm much I miss her.

I told the stry to Jen and she told me that they once took her dearly departed dog Freddie to the vet..to get an Xray and found that he’d been carrying around a superball in his tummy for years..

dogs…. !

Asude from that.. it was a rough day.. a fair bit of strife and agrivation at work.. then at 6  a frustrating session at the haunted forest trying to get the beast working well We ended up having to take off his head and arms .. in the dark.  That’s a pretty tricky battlefield repair because of all the wires to his head.. We had a ton of help and managed to fix the problem.   It’s just not fun to have to work under those conditions…

I got in bed at 9:L30.. and here I amstill typing at 12.. time for sleep.. Nite all. sleep well at the vet Chai-baby.. nite Sam
