Sunday night – Gurdalajara

Greetings from Guradalajara.. before I talk about my day.. you just gotta check out this video that Max just put up on vimeo..

He was practicing timelapse photography on his new camera while he was home last week.. the results are pretty cool..

now.. my day was pretty good.. woke up very early to make it to the airport by 5am.. i wasn’ tthe only one there.. look how crawded it was at 5am.

m yflghts went burlignton to Detroit to Monterey to Gudalajara  no it went somothly after the tsa let me board my flight.. evidently soemthing I had on me made the machine think I had notroglycerin on me.. never did figure that out.

got to gudalajara.. taxi’d to my hpotel and went out for a run.. I new it was a nice city when one of the streets had dianes name

is spent soem time running around checking things out..

 

cooll trees cut like all osrts of stuff..

interesting mix of the modern and old.. the hyper and bypo  aesthetic

many vw’s still running proud here.. I understand that there’s a factory making them  nearby

most houses have some sort of solar hot water heating..

i ran by this meat cart outside the hotel.. smelled good.. but NO THANKS !

it was so great getting to talk to selene and gettign to meet fransiso more

After a snack we drove to the airport and picked up our freind emily who’s down from NY..

then ewe all went out toe Sante Cayote.. a very cool Mexican .. resturaunt

 

(oops just fell asleep for 30 min therel Time to shut don for the night)

Saturday night – almost forgot

I almost forgot to blog today.. i can’t remember that ever happening. I’ve been so busy packing for my trip. I leave tomorrow at 6AM for mexico.. then to argentina and brazil..  I’m really looking forward to this .. and.. like always when I travel.. I’m already missing home..

I’ll keep you all posted from the road…

Friday night – Argentina bound

The big news for the day is that Gabe left today for Argentina. He’s going to be down there for a 2 week language class.. ten I’m going to meet him for some traveling around the country. I’m really proud of Gabe going off to do this.. he’s looking forward to new people and new places.. he’ll e speaking Spanish solid for 2 weeks.. which is going to be really fun and challenging, I’m sure..   It was fun adn hard droppign him at the airport..

I’m excited for him !

 

The rest of the day was very busy as I prepare for my own trip. I did get to take a nice break wen my old friend Fram and I met for lunch.. Fram  who now lives in San Diego, used to be Diane’s office mate.. he’s a great guy   and it was fun catching up.

 

After dropping gabe at teh arport, Diane and I headed downtown to see the annual ock Camp summer concert. Rock Camp is a program run by our frinds Greg and Richard.. that teached kids how to play together in a band. They learn coposition, staing , a nd rock history.. both max and sam got a big part of their musical start thorough rock camp..

 

We have a great picute of sam at camp.. he’d made these pants out of duct tape..

 

there are still signs of sam around the place.. is pictures are still up in the rock camp office .. and we found a smastone right inside the door.

Todays concert was really great.. there was , hardcore, torch rock  and grunge..

We ran into dylan’s family  there,   their son duston was playing.. in one of the bands..It was really great to see dustin playing. He’s gotten so good on the guitar since dylan died..
I think he’s fnidng it really healing..

 

It was so good being back in that palce and feelign the energy .. I encourage everyone to check out the programs and the concerts..

Gabe called right before they took off.. he sounded excxited..e’ll wake up tomorrow on the other ind of the planet.. how cool is that..

Thursday night – retirement eligible

So.. today it occurred to me that yesterday changed everything.. ..At 30 years i am now eligible to retire from IBM.. ..it’s not that I’m going to retire.. it’s just the knowledge that I can retire. Financially, I think I’ll have to be working into my 80’s .. but there’s something wonderful about knowing I can chose not to go into work and still collect a pension since I’m on IBM’s ‘old plan’ ..   Not enough to live on.. but still the combination of that and some sort of job.. say teaching.. would probably allow us to make ends meet..   To me that means that I’m on ‘hobby time’ .. .. what I mean by that is like a hobby.. I’ll do it because I lie doing it.. not because I have to.. I don’t expect that will actually change my plans to keep doing what I’m doing.. but the knowledge that I could is really fun to consider..   I guess.. it also puts more responsibility on me in managing my own satisfaction. if I don’t like it.. nothing is keeping me there..  I’ll take that.. or as spider man said.. with great apathy comes great responsibility..

OK.. I gotta go contemplate the futre..
