Note to self.. only use iphone for blogging when absolutely necessary…
I have to confess.. I have developed a serious addiction over the past month. I’m deeply. heavily and truly addicted to my iPhone. After so many years of resisting on the grounds that I ‘wasn’t one of those people‘, I finally caved in and got one and now , i’m sad to admit, I’m among the worst of ‘those people’. The thing is always on my person.. I sleep next to it.. I work next to it.. I nearly couldn’t enjoy my lunch today because I’d left it behind on my desk. It’s so many things to me… it’s my communications link, it’s my source of information and news, it’s a toy when I’m bored… and it’s even an able partner in building new things. It’ all those things.. but, I’m afraid to say, it’s no true friend to me. Not at all.. In fact.. it’s fancy word recognition capabilities seem to be focused on on garbling all of my communications with the outside world.
This morning I went back and tried to read my blog post from last night. All the words were spelled correctly.. but they weren’t the words I’d been thinking. Even Diane commented that I was particularly incoherent. Now, you must understand that even though I love reading books, I’m not that good at reading words. Things like sign and sing look identical to me (had to stare at that just to type it) around is aroudn. like often comes out like lkie . Some comes out as soem sometimes. The iphone in it’s efforts to correct me is launching me into completely different parts of the semantic plane. I used to make fun of the stuff at http://damnyouautocorrect.com/ but thats before I became … i became… ONE OF THEM!!!!!!
I had a really fun day… And most of the fun was working. Its been quite a while since Ive been able to say that. My knew role is requiring me to learn a ton of new stuff…. And that’s what I love doing most of all.
It wasn’t all work though… I had a good before work meeting with my nerd friend mike… And then after work had a meeting with friends Joe and Jim and colleagues at Essex tech about their new fab lab . They’ve for their space designed and are now choosing their first tools . With luck they’ll be open next fall. Their facility will mix techies with art nerds and graphics designers. All using the magic of laser cutters and 3d printers . Its going to be totally ‘fab’
After that I met Diane and friends john, and Patti at On The Rise to hear our friend Berta’s wind ensemble. Berta’s a very accomplished flautist . She was joined by a clarinetist and an oboist (obotista ?). They played Briton, Haydn , Telemann, Bach and (after I left) Beethoven. It was really beautiful music and all three women were clearly in love with what they were doing.
From ther, friend john and I came back to the house and worked on a multimedia device were designing. Were trying to get the last bit of delay out of the music… Made good progress tonight with some telephone help from max down in NYC. It’s SO fun working with both john and Max on these projects. Sure beats working alone and I’m learning from both of them. John has been a great asset in this project and on the pumpkin robot.
Speaking of max. Here’s what he’s working on tonight… A light up Buddha . How cool is that ?
Sometimes so little happens in a day that it defies description . Today I worked at home. I worked from 9 until 6 and only remember getting up twice. Its not as bad as it sounds Im at a really interesting transition at work. Im finishing up one job and about to begin another. As I ramp up on the new job my brain is getting full of cool new stuff. Its interesting being at the beginning of a learning curve… I have so much new stuff to cram into my head.
Anyway… Only thing I did today that I can describe in detail was that I put on gabes new license plates. Nice… Huh ?
1:30 am and Im just getting home from my first burger night . burger night is an informal weekly gathering of 20 and 30 something folks from all over northwestern Vermont . They get together every Tuesday to talk, eat and listen to someone talk about an idea on her or his mind. ITA sort of like a Victorian salon but full of pierces and inked hipsters . Theyve had folks in to talk about their masters projects ( photographing couples as they wake up) . One guy talked about moose hunting and served everyone moose burgers… But tonight the talk was me.
I talked about my time on The Colony and the joys of passing on your passion. It went pretty well.. But I know I spoke too long. There were about 50 folks there and they stayed through the whole thing. It hence got to hang out and talk . I met musicians, architects babysitters, engineers , restaurant owners and piorogi makers. Very eclectic, fun and interesting crowd. All there just to share ideas… How cool is that ?!?! I hope I get invited back !
