Sunday night – revving up

It’s the end of the first week of the year, and the nice slow down I had for the holiday is ebbing away quickly. my dance card is already over filled. Lots of good stuff. Work is really interesting right now..Some projects are beginning to pan out and  Lots of cool new things looking ahead.. just may be too many of them. That goes double for outside of work. I have one big build that I’m just finishing up for a friend ..  another one that’s starting up and several others I’d like to do.. but will probably have to say no to just for sanity’s sake..

This is the moment where I need to start saying ‘no’ to things.. .. why is that so hard to do ?

gotta sleep.. more tomorrow

Saturday night – Satori at 5

Happy birthday Satori Mariano Cohn . Our baby dog turns 5 years old tonight. Diane fixed a special scrambled egg and cheese birthday dinner for Satori and big sister Chai who’s 9.

I remember the day we drove up to the vt-canada border near newport to pick out a younger sister for chai. She was the smallest labradoodle of the litter.. And she came up to gabe… We knew she was the one.

It funny to think. Of her as a grown up dog.. shes still so much like a puppy. she is the sweetest dog.. she always wants to please us.. she always wants to play. shes so loyal, too. she will stand or sit at our feet just staring at us until we start to play. When we’re out in the woods running, skiing or snowshoeing, satori will stay right at our heels as big sister chai (who’s 9) wanders all over the place. Shes my alarm dog, too. Every morning she comes and puts her muzzle on the bed and stares at me until i wake up…
She has a cute way of smiling that to those who don’t know her might look like a snarl.. But shes no snarler.. Shes actually quite shy of strangers.. And other dogs…. She almost never barks

Here calm expression and dark black eyes make it impossible to know what she’s thinking.. Sometimes we just stare at each other trying to read one another’s mind.. One thing i can read is that she loves us…

I know she knows we love her too !

Happy birthday girl

Friday night – pleasantly apathetic

Im having one of those “don’t care” kind of days… Not the frustrated kind.. Or the distracted kind.. Or the bemused kind… But one of those pleasantly apathetic kind of days…the kind of day when you sit down to write in the evening and your brain has to crane for one thing that happened in the day thats worth retelling…and fail… But not the kind of day that finds that frustrating or puzzling or even funny.. That would be caring..
You know, come to think of it, I’ve been like that for a couple of weeks.. Maybe it was the long break.. Or maybe the lull between the old year ending and the new year starting.. Or maybe that I’ve been getting too much sleep..or eating to well. … Or maybe its lack of stress… Maybe i don’t function all that well without some sort of stress to drive me?
Eh… Who cares anyway ?

Thursday night – you dont know me…but

I had a nice and strange surprise over the holiday break. I found out that Facebook, in its wisdom, had been screening my messages. Somehow they made the decision that certain people were my ‘close friends’ and others were not based on no input from me. when someone from the first group sent me a message, i was notified immediately. When someone from the second group sent me a message i never saw it. Instead it was relegated to some cyber-siberia nested several buttons deep on your profile. I might never have known this had i not bee alerted by a little balloon message that popped up the other day when i was responding to a message which asked me if I wanted to browse my ‘other’ messages. To my surprise there were hundreds and hundreds of messages id never seen.. Some going back to 2011. Most of them turned out to be from folks who had seen The Colony either in reruns, in other countries or on netflix. Many started with the phrase ‘you don’t know me …but ….’ Almost all of them were about the stuff we made on the show and the science behind it… Some were questions, others were appreciations, some were folks just saying hi. It took a few hours, but i responded to every one of them. id heard from so many kids, parents, teachers, and other nerds like myself. It made me feel really good that the maker/science message had come through despite all the other goofy stuff on the show.
I guess i should have been mad at Facebook fr hiding these notes… But it was so much fun reading them all in one sitting that i almost felt i owed them a thank you card.. Funny how that worked out…
Anyway…
