Wednesday night – Goodfellas

I’m down in Tarrytown New York attending IBM fellows meeting. A lot of great brainpower in this room. Well, not in this room actually I’m in my hotel in my brain doesn’t feel so great right now.
Did lots of reconnecting today and lots of thinking and lots of listening. I really love this group of people. I wish I got to see them more. I really feel We can solve almost any problem we can get our heads around. It’s the heads around part that’s always the challenge… LOL
Joking aside, being around people reminds me why I love this company. I guess I really do.

Tuesday night – fellow fellows

Greetings from Tarrytown New York. I’m here at the annual meeting of the IBM fellows. I was a premeeting dinner and many of my old friends were there. It’s been a good long while since I’ve seen them. It is so nice to get together and talk over a good meal and some good wine. People like this are the reason that I continue to work for a living.

Oh yeah and there’s the money…
(… Actually, scratch that… It’s not worth working for money)

Monday night – waiting for router

Just about fell asleep on my ipad waiting for a router configuration to finish on a new toy my friend bill sent me. Its a cool sensor that measures how much co2 is in the air. Then it sends a message to our software at work telling you that you need to open a window…
Exciting stuff.. But im too tired to keep my eyes open.

All for today.. Gotta sleep

Sunday night – software hipsters

Spent a quiet day practicing “Goofing off “. Which is something I’m actually Not very good at. Oh , I’m very good at wasting time… I just worry about work while I’m doing it. Diana went for a lovely snowshoe up in the mountains around Bolton. There was about a foot of snow up there. It was pretty nice !

Around two I headed to Burlington to Café Maglianaro… A local hipster hangout with free Wi-Fi and very good, strong coffee. I Went there to meet up with friends John Colin Katie and Eric about a an art project we’re doing for the “user required” show at the firehouse Gallery. A crash course in C-# a Microsoft language for doing rapid development . Our goal get beyond the “hello world “stage by the end of the session. We all passed!

It turns out that we were not the only ones there coding. On this particular rainy Sunday afternoon the place was packed with little clusters of people with a variety of software languages going on their collective mobile devices. Excellent job, python, JavaScript and about every other sort of language going. Which makes dwell with the strong coffee and folk music. It was pretty hip.

I wish I were this cool.
