Thursday night – Hollow ween ? Nope

Actually a misleading title, we had a great time tonigh.. But first soe observations…

Tonight as we were driving to Matt and Marci's, Diane figured out that this is the first year we haven't carved a pumpkin since… Since when? Certainly in the last 32 years. Hard to believe! I was caught surprised this week as well when I realized that I had missed the night of our normal Halloween party without even giving it a second thought. I guess it's no surprise, Max is in Brooklyn, Gabe's at a party in Montreal and Sam.. Oh Sam, my mind always still goes to three.

This was always one of the favorite nights for our kids.. Always remember big bags of candy being dumped on the floor… And stealing Reese's cups from whoever wasn't looking. Actually they all gave them to me. I have great boys !

Just because our kids didn't need us tonight wasn't going to stop us from trick-or-treating. We had made plans to go help Matt and Marci with Halloween and take almost 4 year old Finn around their cute little neighborhood. It was a blast.

Diane had helped marci, matt, lili and finn decorate their house

It started showing up before six… We got our costumes on, I was a wizard (as always) and Diane was a banana. Matt and Marci held down the fort on their porch. Over the night they gave out more than 700 pieces of candy!

Around 730 we headed back home to Marci's and finn dumped his candy on the floor. That back many happy memories!

.

We hung out there and Washington the last couple of minutes of the Charlie Brown Halloween special. Again happy memories, but I wonder what any kid would make of that today!?

I have a small stash of candy here and I think I'm going to eat it now. More tomorrow.

wednesday – glued to my seat

Tempted to use the word ‘heelish’ to describe today since tonight is ‘cabbage night’ the most mischievous night of the year.. but it wasn’t exactly hellish.. just stupidly busy. I say down to work at 7:45 and besides one trip down stairs to get a piece of bread.. and three times standign to look out a window, didn’t get out of my chairuntil 6:30 PM for dinner.

here’s proof.. my imprint in my chair.. IMG_6062

and through the magic of image processing.. even better proof.. IMG_6062x

the strange thing is.. even for all the triple booked meetings and deadlines.. i think i enjoyed it..

whats wrong with me ?

Tuesday night – borsht belt

Halloween yoga tonight then dinner with the yogis..i love tuesday night so much ! Tonight Diane made borscht… Beet soup. I grew up not really liking borscht.. But like so many things Diane makes , i really like her borscht, these were beets from our garden and .. As gabe sai.. They tasted like dirt… Really, really good dirt

Its funny how polarizing beets can be. Diane reminded us at dinner that in the final days of the Colony when we were running out of food and eating mostly cat and dog food, rats and pigeons, there were a few cand of beets left.. Several of the Colonists would rather go hungry than eat beets… It makes me laugh to think of it now.. But i can remember how hungry i always was..

I think ill have borscht for breakfast…
