Monday night – nice mess

Had to go when to UVM tonight to help some students final project. A welcome break working with my hands. They (The students) are doing okay but they've a long way to go this week. Wish them luck.

While there, i stuck my head into the UVN maker space. I Have a special place in my heart for this place . It was the first maker space in Vermont. I was so glad to see it messy and getting lots of use, this is Wanamaker space should look like.

Just as I was leaving uvm just before 11 PM gabe and jack came By . They were cruising around uvm visiting people during spring break. They managed to find a bug bag of chocolate . We used the tools in the maker space to carve the chocolate. Nice to have the right tools in hand.

Sunday night – Leaster

We had a very nice minimalist Easter day.. I’d call it Leaster. Diane , the dogs and I went for a beutiful hike this morning.. It was a bluebird day.. warmish (40’s) and sunny.. We went up in Littler River State Park..

The resovoir was still covered in ice

so were parts of the road

but things were metling fast. Stephenson brook.. (or is it Joyner brook) was flowing fast

We found a cool little nature trail that we’d never seen before

lot sof cool relics of the old community here.. Here’ are Dan and Sarah’s house

and Chai playing in the flooded cellar hole of their house.

and we read about amos chase. he lost an arm in the civil war.. but managed to devise a sling that allowed him to work a scythe with his remaining arm..

the woods had several cellar holes and old fences that marked whre the community had stood..  this fence was a perfect place for a smastone.

we walke out to the further campsites and hung ou in the empty playground for a boit.. The camp won’t open for more than a month. it was nice having it almost to ourselves.

we

stopped on the way back to check out the spill way oeping in the dam.. it was flowing pretty wildly !

The rest of the day was peaceful as well.. hoe is t was good for you all too..

now to sleep

Saturday night – egggggggselent

Much-needed laid-back day around the house. That hadn't been the plan. We were supposed to be visiting a college today.… But gabe decided and he's going to UVM. I'm really excited for him. I think it's going to be a great place to match his interests. It feels very good to him to have made a decision…

Gabe had in the way lacrosse game down in Rutland. He took the team bus, I got a ride with Elizabeth… And Diane drove in from Endicott where she'd been visiting her mom.

It was a cold and blustery day.

Game was good but we lost in the last minute…oh well….

They brought over some great pastries that she's been trying. She's expanding her Douglas Sweet's brand. These were delicious. Lemon curd tarts, chocolate covered strawberries, and a really amazing macaroon. Thank you Debra

Friday night – heartfelt

Long hard day at work. Glad it's Friday. Dan is out of town so it was just Gabe and me tonight for dinner. We went to Mexicali which was really fun.

I came home looking for some recreational hacking. I've been working on some sports hacking stuff for work and one of the things we needed was an integrated heart sensor that was lightweight. I don't think we can use this for work, but I decided to build one. I have a small pulse oximeter that I bought. I interfaced it to a Bluetooth low-energy Arduino clone called and RFduino.

I then wrote some code that read the sensor and converted my pulse into beats per minute. I didn't have time tonight to write an iPhone app to receive it so I used another iPhone app I had that is used to display temperature. So what I got was an iPhone app with a thermometer that showed my heart rate. It works really well. Not bad for an hours worth of work.

Gotta get up early tomorrow for a lacrosse game. More then.
