Tuesday night – so darn nice

Just spent the day in wisconsin.. And EVERYONE i met there was nice.. Not just nice.. But exceptionally, uniqulysincerely.. Even pathalogically nice.. It was wonderful and bewildering. That lovely accent just doesn't lend itself to unpleasantness.. Im goign to have to check on this, but im betting that no one in the state of wisconsin got mad in the past year.. And if they did.. They didnt get past 'darn'

You may think im being sarcastic here.. But it is not that at all. I thouroghly enjoyed being surrounded by freindly folks…

Amd its not that im not usually surrounded by freindly folks.. Vermonters are really , really freindly.. But just not as frindly as folks from wisconsin,..

Thank goodness our cheese is better 😉

Monday night – bottlecap

Just back from a very nice dinner with friends .. Good time.. Gotta get soem sleep.. So this will be very short.

Those close to me know that for the last several months i have been thinking about the importance of play . So much so.. That im begining to stress out about it. Irononic.. I know..

This morning i was going through my briefcase and re-found this bottle cap from a bottle of Magic Hat beer from a few weeks ago…

 

A nice reminder about whats really important 🙂

Sunday night – Champlain Mini-makerfaire

Today was out third Makerfaire here in the green mountain state and it was amazing. After yesterday’s rain, folks poured in to our second day at beautiful Shelburne Farms.

 

i took advantage of the drive west to stop at my friends Nina and Micah’s for breakfast  . They just moved to hunntington . They found the most amazing house !

 

then it was on to Makerfaire.. I saw  a ton of new stuff there. even though  I only had an hour or so to look around..   Every nerd, geerk, maker and techy artist I knew was there so it was an excellent chance to schmooz.

 

My oly responsibility for today was to help judge the champbot competition.   Our group put out a high stakes challenge to create a creature that looked like champ.. , navigated slalom course through the water. They could then try several optional  tasks including dropping an object in a target, lighting ssoemthign on fire  or submerging. I have to say it was a very tough challenge… i’m not sure I would have been up to it.

in the end we had 7 entrants, 2 of which completed the course.. and most others with valiant attempts. .. it was great to watch.. we also  learned plenty about making next years challenge a bit more accessible.

We even had soem contestants who swam along to help their champs !.. now that’s a real champ !!!

i was very impressed with the creativity and spirit of all the teams.. it was really amazing to see what they were able to do !  thanks to all who participates !

one funny thing that happened is that my freind Mike at Rutland Technical center evidently gave his students  extra credit for tracking me down to get a signature and a selfie. All day i was meeting cool kids from Rutland.. Here’s a couple of them

Saturday night – Yom Kippur

Today was a quiet day..  in keeping with Yom Kippur. Today Jews all over the world fast from sundown to sundown, refrain fro work and reflect on the last year. Many go to shul but i’ve not done that in several years. I think i’m getting less tied to formal religion even as I become more spiritual.. maybe it’s because I’m becoming more spiritual.

My plan for the day was to spend as much of it as possible outside in nature up until the rain would start. I did manage to get a great run in with the girls up honey hollow.

 

I used the steep uphill run to reflect on the past year.. .

 

I used my own rubric.. not the formal confessional ‘al het’  that is used in the service.   (wow .. that link is worth a look . .. it’s pretty old school. towards the bottom it goes into forms of capital punishment (‘stoning’)   for certain sins !)

I do want to say that if I’ve wronged anyone reading this in the past year.. I’m truly sorry for that..  I hope I knew what i di… and made amends.. if not.. please let me know.   gotta settle the books.

i even took a little not-so-ritual jump in the stream to clean of spiritually and physically after my run.. chilly !!!

 

I got to give Gabe and two of his friends a ride into town midday.. on the way.. I saw this license plate.. ‘my2boys’.. we had ‘my3boys’ on ours. I still have the plates around

That fit my mode.. all day long I was thinking of Sam and my dad..  i mean, i always think of htem.. but today they both felt close.

maybe it was the holiday ?.. or the grey weather.. dunno..

it felt good feeling sad in a funny way.
