Sunday night – Golem Central

Beautiful day walking around Prague..

we slept in so late that we almost missed breakfast that ended at 1- !

We managed to sleep through the start of the marathon.. but some of the earliest finesses were crossing the line by the time we got outside

the race start area was strewn with used sponges.. ewwwww

Here’s the famous astronomical clock.. we need to come back tomorrow to actually see it in action .. parts of it are actually 600 years old !

the race was sponsored by volkswagon.. is it just me or are they stealing our logos ?

the race was still going on as we crossed the karlsbride.. we had to wait for runners to pass to cross the street..

The bridge is so beautiful.. today it was absolutely packed with people.. in fact the whole city was

up these bazillion stairs was the Prague castle

Beautiful views from up there .. nd the grounds were so nice

we came through this funky door and there was St. Vitus Cathedral.

We climbed 287 steps up to the clock tower for an amazing view of the city

Inside St Vitus was beautiful.. it was full of incense and filtered light.. It had some of the most beautiful stained glass Id ever seen !

then back out to the castle grounds for a look around

After.. we headed down the other long stairs.. passing St Vitus again.. look at these gargoyles with their tongues out !

This young man’s privates seemed to be getting lots of attention.. look at that shine !

The walk back to the old city ws really beautiful.. through some old vineyards.
We grabbed a fried potatoes thing to give us strnght.. very cool.. potato spiral cut on a wood stick and fried.. covered with sal.t .. yummy !

Next stop was the old jewish quarter. . here’s the cool old cemetery..

I came across this.. It’ says ‘Yahrzeit’.. the year reminder of a loved ones death.. tomorrow is my dads..

We came out near the old synaguge.. It was the site (supposedly) of the Golem of Prague.. created out of clay by Rabbi  Judah Loew ben Bezalel, in the late 16th century to protect the Jews of the Ghetto from pogroms..

The story is the Rabbi wrote the  word emet (אמת, “truth” in Hebrew) written on its forehead. The golem could then be deactivated by removing the aleph (א) in emet,[5] thus changing the inscription from “truth” to “death” (met מת, meaning “dead”). (ok.. that was stolen from wikipedia.. cool story !)

Final stop before my camera an out of batteries was the Pinkus Synagogue .. it has been remade into a holocaust meueam. the names and death dates of the many inhabitants of prague who were killed in wwII are written there.. It was strange to see our name there so many times.

Had to sit and think about that last stop.. amazing to think that was only 70 years ago..

OK.. My batteries and I are all recharged.. We’re heading out into the wild again.. .. and you’ll see what we see here..

Greetings from Prague in the Czech republic. Diane is hear too! We got here around 4. We took a nice longish run in the city to get the feel of the place.. All afternoon and evening we struggles  to stay awake… Trying to fight jetlag.. Finally.  When i lay down at 9:30 to t y and blog…..zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I just woke in the middle of the night. And realized  that i hadn’t finished blogging…hope  you’ll  forgive me and let me wait until tomorrow to  ost pics and the story from our day

Cant stay awke anymorezzzzzzzzzzzzz

<1 hour later>

Now neither of us can sleep we just took another nice short walk around our neighborhood here.  I think this is my third time in this beautiful city. and I always seem to see it mostly at night (last time I was here I took a 2 hour walk-in at 11PM at night.. very cool)

ok. Since I’m awake, Let me try to post some pictures of what we saw today..

We went for a nice long run around this section of the city and a nearby large park..  the place is beautiful nd in full spring ..

THere’s this cool structure called ‘The Peace Wall’ that snakes up a nearby hill. it was pretty mysterious.. I don’t know if its ancient or new.

We ran through the park admiring the flowers, the art and the people

We managed to stay awake long enough to eat a good czech meal (interesting challenge for vegitarians.. but food was very good !)

then sat around and admitted the crowd.. THere’s lots going on here now.. Theirs Hockey’s world cup.. and tomorrow the prague marathon.. so no end of colorful characters on the street.. even at midnight when I took this picture..

OK..now time to sleep. More tomorrow
