so hot and humid.. hit 85 and i could hardly move. Had a fun day anyway.. Began with a visit from old freind Seth and family ho are visiting from chicago.. through them in the pool to keep them cool !
from there i jumped in the air-conditioned car (relief) for the quick drive to Waterbury resevoir.. for the Vermonts Own MIT (VOMIT) club picnic. We had nice showing today despite the heat.. good catching up with so many nerdy friends..
Our mascot TIM (aka MIT backwards) was there presiding
nice dinner here with max and friend sara.. lying in bed now trying to stay cool !
Great laid-back day. Spent the morning on a beverage project, Nice lunch with Diane and Max… And and then spent the afternoon working at the generator.
First order of business there was a piece of investigative engineering. Our friend Bob had brought a medical device that uses trans cranial electrical stimulation. He wanted to know what sort of electrical stimulation was going on. We ended up hooking it up to Scott and took a bunch of measurements and look at waveforms voltages currents etc. Hard to tell what’s going on there but it’s a pretty sophisticated device to be sure. The manufactures claims that it’s good for anxiety, insomnia and depression.… I don’t know about that but it makes some pretty waveforms.
Once we done that… We shifted our attention to the new Tesla coil that Scott has built for me out of the wreckage of my last one. He’s redesign this to make it John proof… My goal today was to get the midi interface working from my iPad… Success!
here is it playing Stravinsky’s la sacre du pretemps
Just back from a great jolts and volts show for the governors institute on engineering. Its one of my favorites every year. About 90 really smart and nerdy high school kids who have opted to spend part of their summer geeking out at a sleep away camp around science and engineering.the kids wer awesome tonight. Smart and funny.
After the show they had condiment wars. Basically two folks dousing each other with either ketchup or mustard.. Then going to wash it off int he slip and slide. Ewwwwwwww
Just back from the Generator monthly social> Tonights metope was all about ‘air’ we had kite flyers, air ‘sniffers’ and inflatables.. A good crowd of 60 or so folks including Max !
Jessie talked about all the sensitive radio data we have floating around.. If your’e a doctor and you still use a pager.. watch out.. everything you say is out there to be easily read !
I totally loved this woman mylar inflatables. The crowd audibly gasped when it inflated..
Jules talked about how the generator had changed her pottery practice..
Max checking out our sawstop saw. If it detects human flesh it fires a chunk of metal into the saw blade and stops it before you even get a scratch..it has to be rebuilt a bit evertime it fires. $160 bucks for each finger it saves..
ok. Running on 3 hours aof sleep.. so more tomorrow
