Ive been teaming all week… (Actually.. I think insects are seen teaming.. What do humans do ?) . Workign with groups of folks coming together around soem interesting ideas.. Ive had to split my time and attention.. But ive gotten much out of the meetings. It reminds me that id rather help get people moving around an idea.. .. Even someone elses idea.. Than have people agree that my idea is the right one.. Does that make me

Yow.. am i busy !.. in RTP trying to attend two all day meetings simultaneously.. I wish I wee one of tho flatworms that you can cut in half and they duplicate..  the meetings themselves are very interesting and fun in a geeky way.. glad I’m here ..

one really fun thing i got to do today was to speak with about 100 new hires here on the site.. then do a panel with my good friend Bala.. both he and i were supposed to be there giving advise to o all the young talent here.. what we realize d afterwards is that we were also really talking to ourselves and each other.. nothing  reminds your why you like what you do like telling others about it.. Bala and I had a great mutual mentoring discussion afterwards…. it’s nice to realize we all are dealign with the same stuff…

afterwards .. i had dinner with one of the groups.. and then met the other for a fireside chat..

I took time out today today to go to Stefan’s memorial service and the gathering they had with friends. There were more than 450 folks in the Church in South Burlington. There were so many people present to show respect to Stefan and how he lived his life. We heard time and time again how he threw himself into life.. even when he knew his time was short. His wife Ali did a beautiful job of capturing Stefan’s spirit.. They were married a month ago.. last week he was out on a JetSki.. even though he was in pain.. he was ‘in fun’ too..

The gathering at the Lake House in Grand Isle was really nice.. hundreds of folks from all over the area were gathered there to share  stories..and beer.. .(Stefan evidently liked beer !) .. i ran into many folks I knew from other places that new Stefan and his family..everyone had the same story.. Amazing guy.. amazing spirit.

It was good to see Stefans parents Bernadette and Don, brothers and sister  surrounded by all this support .. it was also really hard to see . They are strong and have great friends all around them. … i know they will be ok..

Today I got to spend some time with my freind Seth. his brother Stefan died 4 days ago . I just stopped myself from using the normal words there ‘battling’ , ‘fighting’.. because what Stefan did s live with it.. Throughout his disease he kept pushing forward.. when he got the prognosis last year that his cancer was terminal, he decide to go to the World cup in Brazil.. then he got married.. he was living ! .

Today Seth and Hannah met me at the generator. A friend of Stefans had made a beautiful Maple box to hold Stefans ashes. Seth wanted to put Stefans face and a quote on the top. Luckily there were serval folks in the Generator that new the Laser better than we did .. (Thanks Gemmi, Brooke, Alex)..  We had only hd one chance to get it right on the box itself.

we tried a bunch of different combinations of power, speed, dithering styles and resolution on wood scraps.. the thought thing is.. all wood responds to the laser differently

we had quite a crowd at times.. folks understood how important this was to Seth and his family .

finally we were ready to go

It really came out great.. it made me really happy and really sad

tomorrow is Stefans memorial service..   It’s going to be tough..
