Nine years ago tonight Sam was hit by a car while visiting friends in Florida. His soul left his body at that instant. He never regained consciousness. Sometime a few minutes later we got that call on the phone. I remember it so clearly.. I know where I was standing.. and yet.. i still cannot bring myself to think about that moment.

I miss that boy so much. He was/is such a fun, funny and loving kid. …. He’s still so much part of our lives.

this is  the message Sam  left me on the day he died..

I love hearing his voice.  you can hear everything in this message.. his fun his daring.. and the big love he had inside him..

Last thing he said was “Allright… love you bye…”..

That just about sums it up my beautiful boy..

Had a busier day than planned. Even though I’m off I spent a good 3 hours trying to keep up with email . Believe it or not.. that gives me the piece of mind to relax the rest of the time. We spent the main part of the day buying a new (to us) car.. another prius.. which is like back to the future. It’s a 2014 black prius thats almost exactly the same car as the 2004 black prius we drove for nearly 220,000 miles. it feels comfortable to be back in that seat. kind of like a retro spaceship..

First order of biz after getting the car was to drop by the Generator  for the monthly metope. The place was hopping !. It is so great seeing the energy there.

after that we drove out to Charlotte for a late dinner with Victor and Patti.. they’re house sitting in a beautiful place near the lake..   great company.. nice fire

Fun and busy day .. I did something really different today. I was interviewed by Fran S. for a show called Connect on Vt Public TV. It was a really fun experience. The folks at VT OBS were really nice and fun to work with. First was make up (ewwww)

then down to the studio..

Fran is great at her job. it was fun and ‘comfortable She asked great questions about IBM, the maker movement, STEM outreach.. and about 10 other topics..a ll in 26 minutes. She even did a short portion on  Sam.. and SamStones. which I appreciated very much. 

It was over before I new it. After a quick jump in the shower to wash off the goo. I was out the door.. I got to spend the rest of the day hanging out with diane.. which was really nice ..

Our last stop this afternoon was Echo where we got to watch a test run of Lake Brite. The project that Generator folks have been contracted to do for Echo based on a very generous grant from Google. ..DIane and I were at Skinny Pancake when we saw them spark it up.. It’s so beautiful .. it’s 10 x 10- x 50  (=5000) lights.. and weights 3500 pounds

Day two of vacation.. and I’m successfully easing in. Despite a few work calls and some email traffic, i as able to largely turn off work. We spent the entire day at home.. modulo a beautiful run up Libbys Lookout with the dogs..

It was wonderful spending the day here and ticking of change of season chores.. i replaced  the vacuum and dryer vent covers, calked the neater outlet in the barn, took down the trampoline, cleaned my shop a bit..  by the end of the day our outside care list had disappeared..

I also got some good time to (mostly ) clear my huge email backlog.. I’m down to less than one page of emails down from several hundred . That allowed me to (nearly) clear my weekly work white board

now to clear the giant white board in my head..

My thoughts are on the week ahead.. Saturday is the day we mark Sam’s passing. Today the necklace I wear always with Sam’s name in Mayan broke. No trouble.. i caught it and put it on a new string.. 

We will be having a gathering for Sam on Sat Nov 21st. at 1PM we will all climb Bolton Mountain ..  afterwards, everyone is welcome at the house for a potluck and SamStone  making. Please come if you can.. and pass on the invite to friends who would be interested. It will be good to be together .
