Tuesday night – lumbarsexual

lumbarsexual … According to the urban dictionary it means:

A Metro-sexual who has the need to hold on to some outdoor based rugged-ness, thus opting to keep a finely trimmed beard

Im just saying that There are more folks here with beards that I have ever seen in my life. Diane told me that beards are more popular now and they been since the late 19 century.

Monday night – stairwell

Second night in Las Vegas… The city that never sleeps in which is probably why I can't.had a pretty good day here today. The thing I was most proud about was sneaking into the keynote session that was already full. We waited in line for more than a half an hour only to be turned away at the end because the meeting room was full. It was something I had really wanted to see . I didn't want to give up so easily. I poked around on one of the other floors and found a service stairway behind two sets of doors. I walked up to the fifth floor with the big meeting was happening and came out into a service hallway. I crept across the hallway into one of the restrooms and hid there for a bit. And then walked out like it always been there and sure enough they let me in. I guess I shouldn't be so proud of that… Especially since they started letting people in around halfway through anyway. Still I felt like I've gotten away with it.… Hey what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas… Right?

Actually really best thing that happened to me today was I got to spend some time with my cousin Mark. It was great catching up on family work life beer etc.

Now, Just back from a late night hacking session. We have to redo one of our demos for some pretty strange reasons. But once again I find myself in Las Vegas writing code and wiring things up into the night. I guess that's the thing I like doing best in Vegas at night.

Am i a nerd or what?

Sunday night – Hackathon

Greetings from Las Vegas.. .. the most opposite place in the world from Jonesville vermont. I’m out at a conference this week.. Gabe, Jack and I left my mom’s hose this morning at 2:30 aM.. in order to drive through the slush and freezing rain to catch my 5 AM flight and their 6:30 fight. I gotta  get some sleep

I got here at 10 AM.. and went directly to help judge the ATT hackathon that we helped sponsor. It was such a great event.. 110 teams using any tools they wanted to create really cool IoT flows. We had connected car demos, connected health, smart home.. , tools for the blind and deaf. The creativity was really inspiring.

I had several folks recognize me from the colony.. it was that kind of geeky crowd.

Judging was really touch.. there were so many ideas, so many criteria.. but we all came together and got it down. here are my co judges..   .. My friend Gina from LocalMotors was one of the other judges which was fun.

there were more than 100,000 dollars in awards given out. My favorite was the Sosciety of Women Engineers team of the Lopez twins .. they were so great !!! .. I loved seeing them win big !

ok.. conciousness fading here.. more tomorrow

Saturday night – level headed

Hello from my parents house.. my moms house now. Gabe, our freind Jack and I are here for the night. Gabe and Jack are off to a school trip to Wyoming tomorrow.. and I’m off on biz travel. Before going. .. we decided to have another  look through some of my dad’s stuff. One thing I found that really spoke to me was this  my dad’s level.. he was a level headed guy afterall. thsi si one of the tools that my brother and I were constantly using and misplacing.. much to my dad’s chagrin..  think he ultimately was glad to know how much we both learned from his tool box.

I also found a saw that was a favorite of mine as a kid. and there were other treasures.. a belt from my dad’s time in japan (1950. i think)

I also found some great clothes including this fab hat !.. Breaking Bad ?

We then all headed out for a great Mexican meal..

now.. trying to get soem sleep before my 5AM flight. More tomorrow from the road
