Dobro večer from Dubrovnic, Croatia. Diane and I jsut got back from picking up Max at the airort.. so the four of us are all together in this very interesting part of the world.

we got to Split last night with Andrej and Peter.. We were all so tired we all went to our hotels and went to bed. Diane and I woke up aroudn 8 and went for a short run. we couldn’t beleive how big and busy Split was !

the Place has been turned in to a huge mall full of trinket stores and snack shops.. it’s really too bad.. it would have been so much more beutiful without all the commercial stuff.  even so.. the old buildings were pretty cool  Too many folks for me to hang out for long there, though

 

wegot ot the ocean.. and again. it was a zoo !. huge ships, tons of people. good for a few minutes of sightseeing.. but i had all I needed in 10 minutes

 

we found a little bit quieter path back to the house through town which was nice..

 

there were some great markets already opened in the early morning

 

we foudn a little bit of green too !

 

here’s our really wonderful hote. Apartman Fonte.. and very ice Varto who runs it. THe place was his grandparents ad is more than 150 years old.

we got a taxi down the coast a bit to pick up our rental car. Jelena from LastMinte rental was just so much fun !

 

we then took off for the 3.5 hour drive towards Dubrovnik

 

that involved a short drive in and out of Bosnia.. We put a smastone there at a small market. 

 

the market provided good driving food .. like ketchup flavored peanuts !

 

we got to dubrovnick airport just in time to meet gabe’s pane 

 

we got to our Airbnb.. such a beutiful spot. First act was a toast !

Nice rainy day in Ljubiana.. such a beutiful city.. I had  a big meetign this AM at IBM..  Freind Tanya picked my up at 7:15

but was ‘home’ by 10. We packed up and moved out of our Airbnb at Mistri Trg 6… great place.. We pent the rest of the day wanderign around in the rain..

at noon we met up with my old friend Ana from ‘Take a bite out of sceince’ the scien show on SLO TV> We met several years ago at an IBM event.

Diane and I really enjoyed talkign to her about her show.. and the challenges of making sceince  fun ..

 

she took us to see her work

we peaked inside soem of the other studios

crazy thing is Ana’s cousin is a good freind of my brother Billys in Houston. Tiny world !

 

We stopped by a small museam about a race.. and enjoyed seeign google mistranslate the posters..

I had a very busy day for soemthign that was supposed to be a vacation day. Started with a client meeting about 80k away, then a visit to a high scho. then luch at a catle, thena meetign at IBM.. then a meeting with a group of young professionsals. 12 hours long.. and I’m beat.

I did get sto see a bunch of this beutiful contry and its wonderful folks

Greetings from old town Ljubiana. We were in a business hotel in a shopping cnter last night …. we woke up thinkign that want what we neede for vacation.. so we got on the phoen and booked the most amazing AirB2B place right in the cnter of old cit Ljubiana. This is really one of my favorite cities on the planet

.. the people, architecture, food..e veryting is just so sweet.. I’m glad to be here with my girl

 

First order of biz after finding the new place was to go out for a run. We ran up the hill to see the Ljubiana castle awhich towers over the small city

nd the parks around it.

 

inside the castle there was this amazing museam of puppetry !

 

i just couldn’t get enough of the views down to the city from there

 

we climbed the observation tower for an even better look

 

they had a great way of identifying the peaks in the distance. YOu lined an image on the window up with a wire outside the tower.. then you could read the name of the peak and its height

 

we stopped in a cool chapel in the catse and this guy did our names in calligraphy 

 

next ddor there was a great gallery with an exhibit on transport through recent slovenian history.. and this interesting but strange art peice

 

the space itself was very beutiful.. part new, part old.. very cool angles , color and lighting. 

 

the next gallery had hostory of Ljubiana.. including a replica of the oldest manmade wheel which was found near here. 

there was a bust of Tito.. he was premier when  I was in (then) yugoslavia..1n 1979

 

we left the castle and walked/ran down in the rain..

we dried off then headed out again on adventure number 2.. we headed to the new Nikola Tesla exhibit at the exhibit hall

 

 

they had soem really great function demonstrations there

it was a fantastic exhibit ! so glafd diane foudn it !

 

we stopped at a store on the way home to find an umbrella.. look at the news from home..
