Today was the last day of the CROZ QED conference in Zadar.. It was a really great event.. I’m doing this on vacation.. but it turned out to be a really good set of work connections. THe theme was ‘failure’. and it gave me a ton to think of.. ]]

i said goodbye to my new QED friends

my good freind Andrej had driven   all the way down from Ljubuana to pick us up in Croatia.. We headed up the coas road around 2pm

 

First stop was this cool canyon national park.. cant recall the name.. but it was big with climbers

\

 

there was a new rock climbing museum bult right into the mountain. it was just about to open

 

there were fossils evverywhere in the limestone

 

 

after that .. we set out orth again on the 4+ hours of beautiful winding road

 

we’re now in our hotel in Ljubiana.. had a great dinner with Andrej (Our Dinner with Andrej)

Today was the start of the quality in engineering development (qed) conference that I was invited to speak at. This is the 10th year of the conference which is organized by the croatian company Croz. This years conference theme is ‘failure’.. That was a great basis for my keynote.. As even if i screwed up… I would have suceeded :-).. My talk was on success, failure and play and went well.. ..i attended some of the other sessions today that were in english and really enjoyed them. i enjoyed speaking with the folks at the conference.. 

Diane and i just came up from  the big dinner , ..they through.. Theres a party tonight.. But im still not feeling so great.. So were goimg to skip it. Ill see more of the folks tomorrow. Pretty sleepy…feels so good to be horizontal

greetings from Zadar., Croatia. day 2.. Diane and I had the whole day just to hang out. We rented bikes and rode about 12 miles in to the center of old Zadar .. It was a great ride..   We even saw a Dalmatian.. .. which is a breed of dog named for this part of the world

 

 

After fighting traffic .. boats cars, motorcycles and pedestrians, we found a place to lock our bikes outside the old city walls

 

the old city was packed wth people. .. no wonder.. it’s popular !

 

 

There was race today claled ‘Wings for life’… which was happening all over the world .. We came up to it just at the start of the race.. lots of people, lots of noise 

 

redbull was a sponsor.. so there was redbull everywhere !]

 

the city is really georgeous

one of it’s most famous sights.. or.. uh.. sunds.. is  a gigantic sea organ that moans harmoniously as the waves slap it..   here are folks sitting on it..

we bought a bottle of slivovitz, the local plum brandy.. it fit right in the bikes water bottle carrier !

greetings from Zadar Croatia…Diane and I are here in croatia for the first night of our vacation !!! it’s so nice ot be here together.  it was 5 planes and 18 hours.. which is pretty crazy since I was alreaady in europe  this week. I came home for 20 hours just so I could scratch my dogs and sleep in my own bed for a night.   Now I’m back in Europ time..t he goos thing is.. I wont be jetlagged since  I never switched back to US time 🙂

I’m givig a talk on Monday.. so it was a great oppertunity to come and visit this beutiful country. I realize I have’t been here in 37 years !!!!
