the strangest thing just happened. I got to my hotel around 10 PM… and realized theres nothing I absolutely have to do right now. I cant remember the last time that happened. I’m sure I’m forgetting something.. but just the momentary lack of clutter in my mind feels wonderful. Im sure it wont last.. but for at least the next 30 minutes, I’m goign to do nothing and see what that feels like.
My friend Matt sent me a great article today from the Burlington free press. It commemorates the great flood of 1927 that occured 90 years ago on November 4th. The flood was due to heavy fall rains and it almost wiped our small town of Jonesville of the map.
the article is here . Much of the story we know. but many of the pictures I’ve never seen. While there were no pictures of our house, many of the jonesville pictures are from within a couple of hundred meters from our house. Our house was damaged in the flood..If you open any of the walls on the north/eaxt sides of the building you can still see the line of silt which marks the high water line of the flood. Though it’s now 90 years ago, I still can recognize the family names of many neighbors . Cody Bressor was our friend Gary’s dad.. Tom O’neil was our neighbor Marie Bombardiers brother. The worthams still live in town. as do the Connants amd Kenyons.
The flood lead to the creation of the Winooski damn 5 miles up stream from us and the little river damn.. even with thos, we were evacuated from our house by a flood in 1992.. we were pregnant with sam
amazing to think of that sitting here on my nice warm couch
