Friday night – swamp cooler

busy morning.. the I took off earlish  (3PM) t go downtown with diane.. we ran errands including a trip to home depot that took several hours as I thought through parts for our latest project: a swamp cool er fir burning man

it can be really hot durign the day at burnign man.. and thas when you sleep. We’re trying a simple evaporative cooler aka swamp cooler. there are several designs out there on the web.. we borrowed from those, but have made our own design. it’s fashoned from a 17 gallon heavy duty plastic tub..

gabe and I worked in until about 2:30 this morning.

the cooling works by pulling air through a saturate3d mesh,. then blowing the air on people. the act of evaporating the water is endothermic, which  cools the air that  goes through.. as much as 30 degrees. th e bad news is it only works in very dry climates..

it was fun workign with Gabe on this project..

this is the evaporation fabric..

colimn..

ok. 2:30 am// and I’m falling asleep.

nore tomorrow

Thursday evening – 36 years at work

today is my 36th anniversary of starting to work at Ibm. I was a 22-year-old fresh out of MIT when I walked in Ibm for the first time on August 3. I remember it was freezing cold or so it seemed to me.

I’m celebrating  this anniversary doing what I do best … which is traveling

i just came off a flight from Munich to find my flight home to Burlington canceled. All other flights to Burlington were canceled too so I was able to find a flight to Albany. Im renting a car there to drive 3 hours back home.. i am goign to miss the concert we were going to tonight..but im not going to miss diane another day.. 😉

just as we started to board, the airport closed due to lightning ….   it just opened after an hour and a half .. so weve boarded the flight .. with any luck well grt out of here now

i must really love this job… :-).. actually in many ways i still do..

Wednesday night – Maybe it was the roses

Long but fun work day here in Munich.. Just finishing off work (1:15 am)… I just realized that yesterday would have been Jerry Garcia’s 75th birthday.. man.. hard to believe !  Just listening to some old Grateful Dead in appreciation of the man. Strange/fun  to think how much his and the bands music have meant to me these last 40 years..   Listening to ‘It must have been the Roses”…

“I don’t know, it must have been the roses,
The roses or the ribbons in her long brown hair.
I don’t know, maybe it was the roses,
All I know I could not leave her there.
,”

Appropriate ‘cuz I Just got off a long facetime with Diane.. she was showing me flowers from home..   Made me a little less homesick..

(sorry for the grainy facetime pics)

and two of my favorite flowers !

ok.. time for sleep
