Tuesday night – smallish world

Mixed set of stories from this week in munich…. FIrst a small world coincidence from the trip over. My flight from Burlington to Newark was delayed due to air traffic control yesterday. Because I’s fly so many miles on United, they take very good care of me. So when I got off the plane was a very nice woman there with the small screen with my name and two other names. One of them was James Doyle… Sure enough, my friend James Doyle came walking off of the plane. I haven’t seen him for many years . but the interesting thing is  Three weeks ago when my mother-in-law Marcia died, we were going through some of her papers. In there was a picture from my father-in-law Gabe’s  time at IBM. In 1987  gabe had just got a promotion.  there was a small flyer they had his picture as well as several others.

On there I recognized two other people.one of them was my old friend Clay Smith and the other was Jim Doyle.

I didn’t even know he was from Endicott. When I saw Jim I told him the story but you thought was pretty funny… Then I realized I actually had a picture of the flyer. There I was showing him the picture I had of him when he was in his 20s… that’s pretty funny.

here we are yesterday… just 30 years later 🙂

Another weird event .. my good friend Andy Barnes came here to Munich last night from England. He got in about 10:30.. ate some french fries at the hotel.. then went to sleep.. about 1 am he woke up feeling sick.. i’ll spare you the details he shared.. but he spent the next 11 hours (!).. lying on the bathroom floor in his hotel throwing up.. he was dehydrated.. and  his throat was almost swollen shut.. he managed to literally crawl down to the lobby where our friend Jerry got him some help. Jerry called the ambulance .. and got Andy taken in to the hospital

Around 6 my friend Lisa and I went to check on him. Looks like he has Nora virus !  (dont worry..w e had glves and masks)

H’es doing much better thanks to an IV

looks like he’ll be much better by tomorrow..

last story.   at 11 pm I was just about to go to sleep when I got a txt from my good friend Neil from the UK,. Neil retired from IBM last fall and is spending all his time having fun. it turns out he decided to make the 12 hour drive from Chandlers Ford UK down to Munich on his way to skiing for a couple of months in Austria. He was coming through Munich and decided to see if I was here.. I was.. so we grabbed a very late midnight dinner  at the marriot … so very nice to catch  up with him

ok. enough news dor today.. gotta sleep now.
