I had a fever and stomach bug all day .. by dinner I was doing my best to stay soial.. but by 11 I was feeling pretty yucky. By midnight I was in my hotel bed shivering and …. ill spare you the details.. experincing ‘gastric distress’

Somehow I managed to fall asleep….I woke at 7:30 feeling great !… maybe a little wrung out.. but otherwise healthy.

feeling greatfull that itall went through me quick..  hoping i

ve shaken it off..

good example of ‘what happens in vegas stays in vegas ‘

Sunday night – staying on track

This weekend was an interesting study in ‘hurry up and relax’. I have about 48 hours at home.. and I am trying to fit as much nothing in as I can

‘nothing’ includes time with family.. .. time in my shop.. which desperately needed cleaning

CLeaning my shop is catahartic.. . its a great metaphor for clearing a crowded and busy mind.

you might not be able to see the  big difference here.. but it involved sorting a bunch of electronics, fixing a tesla coil.

sorting tools. putting away chemicals.. I’m a new man when it’s done.

one thing that turned up during my cleaning were some huge smoke-bombs made by my buddy scott.   they are only potassium nitrate and paraffin . !

lighting one of those contributed to the cleaning !

Diane and I tried to o get the girls out for a  hieke. but it was still too cold .. It was over 10 degress. but had been -5 F  ~ -21 C

last night. THe dogs revolted and woulnd’t hike.. so we brought them home and went back on our own. We followed our own tracks from yesterday up the hill. it was slow going in all that snow.. still more than 2 feet deep. . I made a point of steppign on the places I’d missed yesterday in order to better smooth the trail for the next folks coming through.

here’s in front of us.

here’s what I left behind.

I dropped by the makeshift lean-to we found and placed a samstone  there.

now .. gettign sleepy. goign to play soem pool then go to sleep..

more from the road tomorrow.

Sunday night – St Patty’s day

Todays St Patricks day… it was completely white here in the green mountain state.

We were committed to get out in the snow today.. first we triedd takign the girls up to the sugar shack trail on bolton.. but it hadn’t been plowed and there was at least 3 feet of snow in the lot.. so we headed back to the notch rode to try libbys lookout.. the girls were not thriled with the weather. it was 10 degrees F and blowing about 20 mph.. it was freeing. they made it about 100 yards in and both started having trouble keeping  their paws on the ground. We had to give up and take them home.

we dropped them at home then headed down to honey hollow.. the snow was so deep (2.5-3 feet) that it was slow going.

we followed another snowshoers trail and it lead us to this very cool makeshift shelter.

I was pretty sleepy after our hike and took a good nap.. by the time I woke up.. it was time to go up to tim and jens for St. Paddy’s day feast..

here’s the view from their house.. check out the icicles !

jen had made corned beef an cabbage.. .. and just cabbage for us veggies.

diane had made green  noodles .. with pesto from last years garden

all kind of greenish !

We listened to irsih music and pretended to sing along..

We were listening to Flogging Molly, an irish punk folk band..  which reminded me (as it always does on St Patricks) of this great picture of Sam in his Flogging Molly Shirt…. it was the last shirt he ever wore.

And here’s a cool version that Sam R made of the same photo

That band pays a wonderful song..called ‘If I ever leave this world Alive’

If I ever leave this world alive
by Flogging Molly

If I ever leave this world alive
I’ll thank for all the things you did in my life
If I ever leave this world alive
I’ll come back down and sit beside your
feet tonight
Wherever I am you’ll always be
More than just a memory
If I ever leave this world alive

If I ever leave this world alive
I’ll take on all the sadness
That I left behind
If I ever leave this world alive
The madness that you feel will soon subside
So in a word don’t shed a tear
I’ll be here when it all gets weird
If I ever leave this world alive

So when in doubt just call my name
Just before you go insane
If I ever leave this world
Hey I may never leave this world
But if I ever leave this world alive

She says I’m okay; I’m alright,
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would,
Now everything should be all right

She says I’m okay; I’m alright,
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would,
Now everything should be all right
Yeah should be alright

Here’s a recording of it I found on youtube

Happy st patty’s folks..

nite all, nite sam.. missing you

with a bunch of our freinds.. Our Frind Katharina is takign a new job..

went home.. got about 4 hurs sleep .. then hopped on a plane..  Coming home to beutiful mid winter snowscape.. even though it’s almost spring !

this picnic table gives you a sense of how deep it is.
