Like any good vermonter I took this morning off work to go and fulfill my civic duty and attend our towns town meeting. the first Tuesday in March every town in the state coems together in some public buildign to elect officials, discuss issues and transact the towns business. FOr richmond its Richmond middfle school.. where all three of our kid went.
we all stood for the pledge of allegiance liek we were still in middle school .
I’ve been doign it along with all my freinds for 37 years. Tiday was a pretty calm meeting overall. the main issues were the passing of the town budget, (passed) the school budget (passed) , a water main project (passed) and a motion to consider a new combined fire , police and rescue building (deferated) .. there were several slect oard seats up for vote and a new library trustee.
here’s the ballot
It felt good to vote on soemthing meaningful.. politics in this countery are SO messed up these days.. at least here it still matters and people are trying to take care of one another.
the gym was full. about 160 peope I think.
the city scape must have been scenery for a play.. it was a fun and ironic backfdrop for our tiny towns select board
hard not to notice the average age here.. ..
I saw so amny freinds.. heard so many montions, raised my hand, shouted Ay.. did all the things that makes rel democracy..
boy di it feel good !
nite all,. nite sam
