Sunday evening – purge

TOday we mostly worked around the house. It was time for the upstairs  storm windows to come off.. so we used the opportunity to completely clean out the closet where we store them. Tons of stuff in threw that hasn’t been touched in years, wood, sheetrock, old window shades, a zillion duffle bags.. and lots and lots of pictures.. The pictures I couldn’t  handle today.. so they went back in untouched…

The cleaning momentum stuck with me so I went after my office.. I just started tossing stuff.. and before I knew it I had  a whole laundry basket full of notes , presentations, articles. receipts all from my last 3 years of work.. It was amazingly  cathartic..

sorry for the blur (it’s on purpose 🙂

I felt like I was beginning  the metamorphosis form my old job to my next..

i’ll miss the people, I’d say I’d miss the technology.. but I’m still working with it in my new role.

I just wont miss the receipts

Saturday afternoon – Nice landing

Just landed in dulles on my 44th trip to Germany.. I’  winding down my job there.. and as much as I’ll miss the people and the technology, I will not miss the commute..

THat was on my mind today with our 777 landed in DC,

Just after take off from Frankfurt  the pilot cam on and introduced himswef and told us it was his final flight.. he was retirng after many, many years of flying..

Just before we landed in DC he came on again and gave a sad-sweet thank you to all the passengers and crew..  and reflected on how it felt to be landing a big plane for probably his last time..

they said they gave him a fire hose salute on the ground before we landed.. but I didn get to see that

the  landing was flawless

the plane erupted in clapping.. it was really sweet

as we got off the plane he shook everyone on-boards hand..

I could see the emotion in his eyes..

it was a good day for him,
