Sunday night – Remembering Ed

Today there was a memorial ceremony for my friend  Ed Siebert.

Ed was a smart, quiet and funny man with a big heart. I’d worked with hin for about 30 years at IBM. HeWhen I joined IBM.. people tlaked about him in as kind  of a guru.. he invented some of the tools we used to convert the shapes we used to design chips into their electrical equivalent,.. .. so many versiosn if IBM chips relyed on the stuff he did..

he was also a very interesting and different kind of person. he didn’t talk much.. but when he did .. it was aways insightful.. and very often funny in a very quiet offbeat way,.

The congregational church was full of folks who knew ed form various parts of his past. SOme of our joint IVBM freinds were there.

there were lots of pictures of him.. first as a kid in Michicgan

then as a young nerd .

who then moved ot Vermont in the early 70’s . he became the top ranked tennis player in the stte of Vermont !

then he transformed into an easy going mountain man.. it happened while we were away at school in Pittsburgh. .. I rmember takign 4 year old Max trick or treating and this guy opened the door at oneof the houses.. it wasnt until he gave me that funny smirk that I knew it was my friend Ed !

from that point. Ed became a really free spirit.. He bought  some land and spent months living up in the woods in a tent.. eh’d come down, shower and show up at work..

He was so interesting. he ate most meals in resturrauts.. My friend ROn related how he and ed met every sunday at the choo choo in Essex for breackfast,.

I remember for a while he ate dinner every night at the Checkered house.. One day it was too muddy for him to get down from the tent. the folks at the checkered hose were worried not to see hin.. so they called the police.. ed was fine !. just a little muddy !

he was eating regulary at a Thai  resturant in Essex where he met Kiki.. they got married in 2014.. it was really true love.

Kiki realuy took care of ed.. it was cool to see in the pictures how he seemed to get younger !. THey went to meet her family in thailand where they lived for 3 months..

they were in the process of adopting Kiki’s gran niece Nomo when Ed died. She was there .. and was so sweet and smart. She read a poem to Ed

here’s kiki. it was so nice  meeting her and her family .. They loved Ed so much ,.

there was a display of all of ed’s awards.. it was great to see

lots of old friends in these patents.

here’s a picture of when ed got an award. in the picture oare meany old friends. John trnka, rick bertalino, art strube and my great freind Paul bassett

we left the church feelign sad and happy.. saying goodbye to a smart and funny man who lived a good life.

we took a wal in the woods after.. whcih was a great way to end the day

we’ll miss you ed

Saturday night – ice, ice baby

Got outside for a longish hike with the dogs. It was warmish (in the 20’s) .. Everything is covered with ice from last week’s rain frozen over the snow.. Made for slippery but beautiful walking. Our yeard is liek an ice skating rink.. made bringing in wood treacherous !

I love Vermont even under ice .

BTW>. I noticed that yesterdays video of the laptop thief report didn’t work.. so including it again here
