Thursday night – scampi

easy day at home .. my only time out was a short run with the dogs in the beautiful snow

I came home to find gabe and Raya eating breakfast.. they were eating bear sausage they got from our new roommate Elliott..

the bear was from the hill behind our house…that felt both sad and cool to me

I spent the day programming and catching up on some work stuff . It’s been nice being so off line this break

Gabe leaves tomorrow morning so he, Raya and Elliott made a big dinner with help from Diane . Gabe’s choice was shrimp scampi.. it was so good.. and nice to have yet another big dinner

It’ll soon be quiet again and I don’t want to rush that

Wednesday nite – Thorever

We learned today That our friend Matt Thorsen passed away yesterday after a long run with cancer. Matt was an amazing guy… We didn’t see him often but it was always around something really fun. He was a photographer for the local 7 days newspaper. We would run into him at all sorts of crazy things like art hop, or BCA shows, or Chris’s burns . One of my favorite memories is a photo shoot he did have hammers “Monroe doctrine” where we all dressed up as Marilyn Monroe and got photographed In a steam punk shower. (You had to of been there) http://johncohn.org/base/2012/02/04/friday-night-the-monoe-doctrine/

Matt was an accomplished and eclectic artist… We had a really amazing eye for photography.

I’ve been to several of his shows… They were amazing and sometimes shocking. I remember a photograph of his father that was taken shortly after his father’s death. I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. He had a very interesting and unusual world of you and captured it really well.

The last show I saw of his was at Burlington city arts. It was a fundraiser for Matt’s treatment. He got all his friends to come and i could tell that made him happy It was great seeing him then.

Eva from Seven Days did this wonderful Interview with Matt a few months ago. It was really a wonderful tribute… And I love the fact that Matt got to see it.

A month or so ago our friend Sarah and Dan made some Spiderman capes for Matt and his wife that Diane delivered. I exchanged emails with Matt just after that… That was the last time we communicated

I Will miss you Matt… You are an amazing fun and inspiring guy.

I believe there’s going to be a memorial service Format at his and his wife’s Diane’s house on Sunday.
I’ll post anything I hear

Tuesday night – New Year’s Day

Very slow and easy start to the year. We all took advantage of the bad weather and stayed inside and puttered. I started working with my new Intel move videos Neuro stick… It’s a simple USB device that plugs into a raspberry pie and accelerates machine learning inferencing.By the end of the day I was successfully able to recognize the difference between a bowl of guacamole and an electric guitar… Another great start for the year

Dan had a wonderful yoga gathering here tonight… We had about 15 people over for fish soup.

That’s three good things for the day… I guess that’s enough for one day.

Happy new year everyone

Monday night – happy new year!

About 1130 on a slushy New Year’s eve… Diane and I are home and ready for bed. I think I have Taxi duty for gabe and raya at 2 AM so trying to get a little sleep… And have an event full year… Looking forward to the next one

Today was fun and slow… We took a hike with the dogs around Libbey’s Lookout

We had a downtown around 6 PM. Gabe was performing with Circ de Fuego And we had to get them down for 645 call. We were down there also to check out the new highlight New Year’s eve festival that Is replacing the old first night. It was a great time. We basically hung out at the waterfront and checked out all the stuff at the Echo Center.

The Cirque de Fuego show Was really excellent. Chris and Kim do such a great job at organizing these things. Gabe was lead safety And did Fire blowing. He was in great form. Check out some of these pics

Right after the fire show came fireworks… They were great. It was good they got them in because it was starting to rain.

Hey soon as we could we went to Ecco to get out of the rain. It was a great scene. There was lots of great art and a ton of people dancing talking… I was very happy to be there

Jacket brought wasters again… It felt funny eating oysters in an aquarium

I had fun trying to photograph the fish with reflections of our LED headbands

Now it’s time for a few hours of sleep before I have to go pick up the kids downtown. I hope everybody’s having a good end of the year… Let’s make next year fun and interesting
