Saturday night (delayed) – HackMIT

Wonderfully crazy and fun day at hackmit yesterday… There were more than 1100 students… About 700 of them from MIT and 400 others that were flown in at the events expense. I don’t think I’ve ever been around this many Uber smart people . And I’m proud to say we were ready for them. Our Ibm team was there in force… Call we had prepared long and hard for this and it felt very good

Several of us got there very early to begin setting up… It was fun being in that large stadium all by ourselves

By 9 o’clock when The event officially began we were ready

I had to make a short 902nd presentation at the opening ceremony that laid out everything Ibm was doing, our challenges, our prizes etc. It’s hard to make such a short speech

As soon as the opening ceremony was over the students poured in and we were absolutely mobbed for swag… Luckily we were well prepared

We spent the morning helping student teams decide what to do and trying to convince them to let us help them. I think we did a pretty good job… Will see today

Around 1 o’clock my friend Derek did a very well-done tech talk on the Ibm programs. He talked about his work with project owl… One of last year’s call for code projects that he helped his wife. He then walk people through how to use IBM cloud by showing them how he had hooked up his Tesla. It was standing room only

The rest of the day was just meeting with students helping them where We could

We took breaks when we could to eat etc. I really enjoyed hanging out with The other members of the Ibm team

From there on it was hacking until about 2:30 AM when things got pretty quiet

Some of that quiet time allowed Derek to let me drive his Tesla. ‘

It’s the closest thing I’ve ever been into to a rocket ship. Truly an amazing machine

I got out my electric go cart… Which was my “indoor Tesla”… Here is Hendrik taking spin

Then more hacking

I did note that we were the only sponsor there after about midnight on… Go team Ibm!

I went home and got about 3 1/2 hours sleep… And feel great. Just about to walk in there this morning. Let’s see how it goes today

Friday night – Friday the 13th

I realized that today was Friday the 13th… It’s so funny that nobody pointed that out to me today… I did happen to notice that the elevator in this building indicates that there is no 13th floor of this hotel

Overall today’s luck was just about average… There’s many things went right as went wrong…

I had a nice surprise at the Small store here at the Hyatt… I had written a letter telling the management how much I appreciated how nice and personal the people who work in that shop are. I walked in and they had my coffee waiting for me and thanked me for my note… I had no idea they even knew who I was. They are so sweet. They really make this place feel like home away from home

We had a real fire alarm at work… They had to evacuate the building just as I was finishing up my printing for the handout material. I didn’t even have my shoes with me when we had to evacuate

I guess that’s pretty good. Ended on a high note Though.

A bunch of my friends who are here to volunteer for this weekends hackmit Event went out with us to State Park… My favorite dive bar. It was so good seeing everybody!

OK… Better get some sleep. Not getting much sleep in the next 36 hours.

Moore from the hackathon!

Thursday night – 911

Like everybody else in this country I realize today was 911. It’s very strange number for me. It’s been my “lucky” number since I was a little kid. I remember it kept coming up in my life. Like it was my locker number… And our member number at our swimming club. It appeared so many times in my life that I started using it for passwords (still do but in different combos)… And I wouldn’t write it on things for good luck.

Diane and I were engaged on nov 9 1985 Which is actually 9/11 In England where we lived at the time

I was working today on a project downstairs when I noticed the inside of the door that I rarely see. There Was 911 that I had put here when I bought the house in 1982.

I’m not sure what to make of that… But I still consider it a lucky number.

Strange as it seems
