I had a very MIT day. It was so friggin cold that I spent the entire day on Mit so I didn’t have to walk back to IBM.
That meant I got to see my MIT friends Ji, Song, Chris, Kim, antonio, Jonathan, and Josh, I was so lazy that it was great to hang out and talk to them.
I’m actually watching the Democratic debate right now… It’s actually kind of fun
Super busy day… Would begin got canceled which gave me a chance to squeeze in a little Christmas shopping. I was able to combine that with a meeting with a new friend, Anshula Who had been introduced to me by my friend Peggy. The two of them ran into each other in Mexico. Anshula Is a research associate and Mit is looking for ways of collaborating with us. I took advantage of the free time for the two of us to walk down to the MIT Museum as we talked. That allowed me to get a little shopping in and allowed me to show her my favorite museum.
There’s a great exhibit there by Arthur Canson… He makes these elaborate mechanical machines that are pure joy to look at
Later tonightI met my friend Hendrik and a visiting colleague of his, Felix… A 20-year-old PhD student who is visiting from Koblenz . Nice sushi dinner…
The walk home was brutal… It must be about 10° with a 25 mile an hour wind. It Feel so much like home that I miss you even more
Fun day here in Cambridge… I woke up to snow outside… The cityscape look like it was in black-and-white
Went for a nice run…
got dressed in a red shirt and my blinking Santa hat and headed into work. On the way I passed a nursery school with a big picture window. I waved at the kids and before I knew it they were all plastered up against the side of the window waving and jumping up and down. To them I really was Santa. I waved and jumped around for a while with them all a kiss and then walked away… I got all the way to the end of the block and they were still staring. I would’ve taken a picture.. But I know folks don’t like to have pictures taken of their kids without permission. Anyway it was so cute
Mid day we had a nice recognition luncheon. It was fun having everybody in the same room
Around 530 I went and found my good friend John who is here visiting from Columbia. He had some experiments to do here for his PhD work. It was so great to see him. We walked down to my friend Hendrik’s to participate in his annual. Feuerzangebowle festivities. It’s a funny way to make mold wine. You have a big vat of mold wine and then you take this weird metal thing and put a cone of pure sugar that is doused in very high test run with you late. A lot of work… But it was fun and delicious
From there John and I walked back to his car… He had to drive back to New York tonight. It was so great catching up with him I’m so proud of how he is research is progressing. He such a wicked smart guy.
Came back to my room and started running some code on satori. It’s so fun to have that computer working. It’s really really fast
Fun and interesting day here in Cambridge. After a long set of meetings my friend Fred and I went out to an Indian restaurant… I decided I was going to order something I’ve never ordered before… Which is something I rarely do… I guess by definition it’s something I never do…
I close my eyes and pointed at the menu… (And selected for Vegetarian)… The result was paneer Tikka. . That was Indian paneer cheese rubbed with spices and baked.… It was delicious and different…
