Sunday night – beaver, beaver build your dam

Pretty quiet day today. Spent most of it sleep in one way or the other to catch up from a late Santarchy last night :-)

It was gray and rainy/sleeting… But we did manage to get the dogs out for a longer walk. We were surprised to see a major amount of beaver activity down by the river… Always cool to see one of these things. And since the beaver is the mascot of Mit… Always proud for my team

Saturday night – second Santarchy

Almost 2 AM and just home. After a nice day around the house with a little attempted shopping Diane and I went over to our friends Bonnie and Chris’s for a really lovely party. We got home about 930… My friend John came in from Waterbury pick me up and both dressed as Santa as we headed down to Burlington. This was both of our second “santarchys” . It’s a worldwide event where people dressed as Santa is go from bar to bar. The Burlington event started at seven… We got to town roughly 1000… So we walked around all of town and stuck her head in basically every bar and ask people if they had seen a whole bunch of Santas. We got various clues “they were here 10 minutes ago”… “They headed down the street”.

What was funny is that I was wearing my blinking Santa hat… So many people came up and talk to me. It was so wonderful because I look enough like Santa that it brings out the kid and everyone. I could look right into their souls and I’ll tell you that most of them were really good.!

It was a pure joy to bring that kind of joy to other people

Around 1130 we actually ran into a bunch of other Santas who had just been abandoned by the Major group. We followed them up to club metronome… Which was really fun. Then we were leaving and we ran into Chris and Kim… And we went back in to nectar’s to hear a fish cover band. Then our housemate Kyle and Hunter called us and they were back up at metronome… So it was about 130 before we left

Such a great time!

Friday night – home again

Not much to report today… Had a super busy morning and then was able to get out of Boston by 2 o’clock. I’ve never been able to leave that early… And that meant I missed all of the traffic. Home in only 4 1/2 hours. So happy to be home.

Thursday night – fathers forever

Tonight was the fathers forever Christmas gathering. Fathers forever is a group I joined right after Sam died. Our common thread is that we’ve had all had children who have died. It’s a great group of guys… Some old-timers and some new people with fresh wounds. It’s an almost magical gathering… We get around and talk about all sorts of things not just our common tragedy… But our lives, our hobbies… Sports (though I suck at that)… Etc.

After eating our weight in pizza… We all gathered to check in. Steve took us through the lighting of the menorah with his son Jarrod had made… It was pretty touching. It was kind of interesting since so few of us are actually Jewish… It didn’t matter.

It also didn’t matter but Hanukkah is still two weeks away :-)

We had Christians,Jews,Hindus, Muslims… And I suspect quite a few atheists.… We all had various spiritual transformations after our children passed

From that point we all stood around and told funny stories about our kids… It was wonderful and sad… Mostly really really funny. I told the story about Sam’s broken elbow after I threw them up and forgot to catch him

After that circle time… We hung around and looked at each other’s pictures and got caught up.…

I Left feeling both happy and sad… And knowing a little bit more about Adrian, John Junior, Jared, Talia, Stephan, Anya, Annie, Samantha, and all the others
