When the virus first started spreading I have to admit I was looking at it as an opportunity to collectively slow down. zIn fact it’s been very much the opposite. It seems like every aspect of my work is exploding right now and I am on video conferences all day as are my peers.… I was very much on my mind when I went on a run with Diane this morning. We saw a freshly fallen tree that a beaver had taken down in the last day or so… Good metaphor for keeping busy
This is the least St. Patrick’s Day St. Patrick’s Day I’ve ever experienced. It was dinner time before any of us in the house noticed it. I think the only thing I did today that was GREEN was eat a salad. This virus thing is such a killjoy.
Actually Come to think of it, I did think of it earlier. I changed my Facebook picture to this
I was on calls from before 6 AM till eight 8:30 PM… So I finally was exhausted enough I decided to do some recreational hacking. I made a new thermal scanner… I actually did it for practical reasons. Last night I thought I was running a little bit of a fever… (I guess I wasn’t)… But I couldn’t find a thermometer. Now I’ve got something that if anyone walks in the house will know immediately if they have a fever. Spooky? Cool? Maybe both?
As the coronavirus crisis deepens… More and more things are stopping. The schools closed here tomorrow… As will all the bars and restaurants.. We’re all hunkering down to do the best we can until things improve. I’m actually kind of proud the way that everyone I know is adjusting… There’s nothing else you can do. One of the big adjustment is working from home. That isn’t such a big adjustment for me because I’ve been doing it on and off since 2013… I love this cartoon that came in the New Yorker daily email I get
But what is an adjustment is that there are at least three sometimes four of us working at one time in the house. Diane took these pictures of Hunter, Caio, and me deep in the middle of our day jobs.
So far it’s been fun… I suspect that fun will wear off but I believe will find a good rhythm.
I hope everyone out there is making the adjustments OK.
Really nice slow day here. ‘Diane and I spent the day working Around the house. I managed to get my shop cleaned up… There’s something about the cove and 19 situation that makes me want to get ready to make stuff… I’ve heard of several efforts around the country trying to engage makers to help build things Like homemade ventilators… And data analytics packages to watch the spread of the disease. I’m hoping to find something I and / or my team can do to help
We did manage to get outside some today… It was cold but beautiful. Lots of good son. Got the dogs down to the rivershote
Then Diane and I took a great hike up Stevenson Trail and then down the little river trail. There was still a ton of snow… I was glad we had our crampons on.
Later in the evening or a friend Patrick Came over… Today is his 30th birthday. His family is of traveling so he was here by himself so we were happy to have him come . He’s a great guy
Diane made chili and a really great cake. We practiced social distancing… Even had him blow out the candle off of the cake. It’s a new world even for birthdays
