Today, hit was with great sadness, that we said good bye to our sweet younger dog Satori. She was 12 years old and until yesterday the most happy and healthy doggie friend i’e ever known. Satori defined unconditional love. She was playful… A great listener. Always so eager to please. She came into our lives after Sam died and helped us all in so many ways. She was a joyful being and one of the best friends I think I’ve ever had. (I mentioned she was a very good listener) .
Satori was always up for fun.. Her name it “sudden enlightenment” is in Buddhist tradition… Her enlightenment was in joyousness.
She was one giant bundle of free fun.… When her hair grew long she was like a sheep… When she got shaved multiple times a year she look like a very large velveteen bunny
She adored her older sister Chai who is now over 16 3/4… If I’m being honest I’m not sure Chai was as adoring of her sister… She definitely knows somethings changed here though. Together they were our great friends… They were a reason to get up and sometimes it was hard to do so. They got us out of the house year-round… they were always good company together
Satori along with Chai was our running and hiking buddy for just about every day of her 12 years.. Yesterday we took our normal walk over to the river…
And on the way home she just lay down in the field. I had to carry her back to the car. After two vet visits yesterday we thought we knew what was wrong with her and she was getting the right treatment. I actually slept with her and our older dog Chai in my workshop last night.
This morning she was too weak to walk. ‘Diane and I took her to the emergency vet and over the course in the next few hours we learned that she had a gallbladder infection that caused her liver to fail and that caused blood clots in her aorta . Unfortunately there was no way that she could have the surgery she needed with that major blood clot in her aorta. The vet said there was really no way that we could save her. It was such a shock…
We were able to get Max and Becky and Gabe onto a zoom call with Citori… And we spent a good amount of time all together saying goodbye… It was beautiful and so very hard
Saying goodbye was one of the three hardest things I can ever remember doing. Coming home and seeing all of Satori stuff… Particularly her much loved toy hedgehog ” Hedgy”… (Actually she got a new one every six months…one even yesterday) The Game Hedgy always had new rules… Satori would grab her toy and sneak up behind you and push it into the back of your knees until you grabbed it then she would play tug-of-war until she got away from you and then shake it seriously… Then she would let you grab it back and tell you through it for her and then chased her around. We literally would do it for hours.… I think that is one of the things I will miss the most.
I’m hoping Diane will play Hedgy with me sometimes …
I keep seeing all of her stuff around here… And every time I touch them it makes me cry.. ..
Satori actually donated her name to a large computer that we built at MIT… When I got back onto my email this afternoon they were us tons of notes about Satori. She lives on in that too
She had a wonderful life… We took great care of her and she had a lot of fun. We will miss her forever and she will always be with us
Good bye Satori.. we love you so, so much !.. I hope there are hedgy’s in heaven
Nite all, nite sam
