Tuesday night – Goodbye Chai-baby

We said goodbye to our beautiful Chai Baby today… the day she turned 17 years old. She was the best dog.. the best friend.. loving , beautiful and quiet.. curious an smart.. and alway by our sides.. It was so hard saying goodbye.. but it was time.. she let us know that she wanted to go… and today.. surrounded by everyone who loved her.. she crossed  over.

we new this would be the day.. so he spent most of yesterday by her side. Max and I even slept beside her last night… We all slept peacefully

this morning she was peaceful and had good energy.

Gabe,  Max and I took her down to the river as I have done every day for the last… Who knows how long

we spent the rest of the morning just sitting beside her holding her and rubbing her. Talking to her..

We found some stuff she can eat. She had some Dutch babies with maple syrup and some of her favorite Cabot sliced American cheese… Was time  she’d really  eaten in several days

I was so happy that both max and Gabe and tBecky and Sammantha   were here.. and I know Chai as happy they were here, too

We could feel Sam nearby too

Around 12:30 colleen… Our wonderful holistic vet showed up and we catch outside to the garage. We put some heaters in there and put her on her bed… A place where she loves to hang out.… It was a very peaceful time

We are plenty of time to say goodbye…

It was so hard to say goodbye other.. but it was the right time and the right way..

We’re still crying.. yet we feel better.. and we know she does too..

We have a zillion pictures of Charlie over the last 17 years… But I think this will come out over the next couple of days. Right now I just got a sick bus wonderful friend… She was there for some of the best and some of our stops for us. She was always there with love and attention

We will all miss her so very much

I was really missing sam today.. here’s one of my favorite pictures of sam and chai

Monday night – almost

Slow start today .. we all started by taking Chai down to the river . She’ll be turning 17 tomorrow… and .. so hard to say this .. she’ll be leaving us . She no longer can walk or take care of herself . She still loves us and we live her .. but her quality of life is gone .. and she’s telling us she’s ready to go

That’s to hard to say

We all are determined to have fun while we’re together so we hiked camels hump

Tomorrow will be hard .. but it’ll be a good send off for a wonderful friend and companion

We love you Chai baby !!!

Sunday night – family day

The house is full .. even with masks and distance it’s great to be together…

Everyone woke at different times

I took advantage of the quiet morning to get chai to the river .. she can’t walk much anymore .. but she still likes to go to the water

We had a late breakfast outside which allowed us to drop

Masked for a bit .. waffles and leftover thanks giving stuff

During the day we split into two bands . Diane , Gabe and Sammantha headed up Mansfield . Max, Becky and i went hiking up Trapp road in Huntington with Mason

Interesting to find a beautiful cabin at the end of this trail. They have an ominous safety warning .. i suspect it’s a joke .. but not a very funny one

Eating tons of leftovers tonight

.. super fun and full

Nite all, nite Sam

Saturday night – hallowgiving

Really nice day today… Gabe and his girlfriend Sammantha Arrived from Portland around noon and Max and his girlfriend . It’s our first time meeting sam and she’s awesome . Max and Becky showed up around six… We’re all here together in a socially distanced way… The circumstances it brought us out here together kind of random and funny… But it’s good timing. Given the pandemic we’re being very careful and recognize that we might not get together again for sometime so were using the time to celebrate all of the holidays but we’ve either missed or will miss together. Tonight was Halloween and Thanksgiving. That was really nice. The bittersweet part is that our wonderful almost 17-year-old dog Chai Is in her final days. It’s all kind of a weird coincidence but it’s all nice to be together and that special time in chai’s life.… We never thought she’d make it today. But she still here with us which is nice

Gabe, Sam, ‘Diane and I hiked Libbys while we were waiting for Max and Becky to arrive.… We got caught in a major thunderstorm which was actually pretty cool

Soon after Max and Becky got here Diane rolled out an amazing meal… Full turkey, stuffing, bacon wrapped green beans for the boys… Sweet potatoes macaroni and cheese stuffed salmon, and then apple and pumpkin pie for dessert we can hardly move

We’re grateful for all the love that’s here and missing those who are not

Happy hallowgiving everyone !

Nite all, nite sam
