Friday night (delayed) – paradox

I didn’t blog last night because I didn’t know how to reconcile the day I had. It started on a very tough note. My dear friend Scott entered hospice care on Thursday night. He’s in the last stages of pancreatic cancer. I was able to spend 2 1/2 hours with him in the morning at the hospice… It’s such a beautiful and calm place compared to the hospital. It was really nice being able to hang out. And Scott is my closest nerd friend . We met over 30 years ago… And he’s help me build the equipment I use to get kids jazzed about science. I learned so much from him… And I will miss him so very much…we’ve been working together to try to find home all of his amazing science gear that he’s collected over the years. We think we found good homes for most of it. It feels good to have something to do together. Scott seems to be a piece now… He’s such a remarkable guy

I hope to be able to go and see Scott again a couple of times this week… But at this point none of us know…

Am I I can’t even bring myself to say it

Anyway. Please send your love and thoughts to Scott and his family

And the paradox of course is that life continues to go on outside. ‘Diane and I agreed two giveaway popcorn and snowcone Chris and Kim’s Cirque du Fuego Show last night… I have to admit my heart wasn’t really into it because I was thinking of Scott… But the show must go on

It was a great event… And ultimately I was glad to be there…

I’ve learned over the years that You can be sad and happy at the same time

Please keep scott and his family in your hearts

Max Is 33 years old today… Hard to believe. He is such a fine and awesome person… Super creative… Super funny and super loving. We just got off the phone with Max and Becky and Gabe. We’ve been having so much fun looking through old videos and pictures. It’s amazing how many of those pictures and movies are of Max making things… He is the most awesome maker I have ever met

I am so proud to be his papa !

Happy birthday my son… I love you so very much. It’s not often that you get to help make your very own best friend 🙂

Wednesday night – burning covid

After work today, some of my fire and water friends met up at Nordic farm to start building our burn structure for the year… This year we’re burning a giant Covid virus… We spent the night starting to frame it up. It’s 12 interlocking pentagons… It took some thinking it was really fun to do

This Thing is going to look awesome when we blow it up in August. Bye-bye Covid

Tuesday night – Bon voyage mayflower II

I woke today to the news that the autonomous ship project Mayflower II that I’ve been involved with Launched from Plymouth England this morning.… If all things go well Ocasio shit in a couple of weeks and land in Plymouth Massachusetts. It’s retracing the root of the original mayflower…

It’s a beautiful ship that’s completely autonomous… It has a ton of technology on it… I will post a live dashboard of its location you can follow along tomorrow

I also got a lovely note from one of my friends who is running the project… And a sandstone placement Aboard the ship. Here is an excerpt from it

Where did you place the SamStone ? (please be as specific as you can e.g.: near a landmark, an address or a long/lat)

Mayflower Autonomous Ship

Please tell us more about where and how you placed it

I put the Sam stone in a pouch and placed the pouch inside a box we made for the personal items our team members and their families wanted to send inside the Mayflower Autonomous Ship across the Atlantic Ocean to the USA. This is a ocean science platform, and an autonomous vessel. Let’s hope it makes it. I’m sure Sam’s memory will bring us good luck, and his adventurous spirit is an inspiration. The boat’s location can be tracked here: http://www.mas400.com

My friend included the following pictures

I’m so glad sam is represented on this beautiful ship…

Good luck Mayflower
