Thursday night – happy last day

when our son Max was very young… He went to a preschool where every time a kid left the school for any reason they called it the “happy last day”… A little bit of a rhetorical trick to turning otherwise bitter sweet event into a happy one

Today was my “happy last day” at Ibm. Truly it is been an amazing trip. I am really touched by all the letters and emails and texts I’ve gotten from people…Even though I’ll actually be back as a part-time might be in employee in a few weeks…

‘Diane came back from Boot Camp this morning and brought homemade Whoopie pies that one of her friends have made… He sent one home for me for my houses last day

I have to say it was a pretty funny feeling when I finished my last meeting at five… It was with some of my favorite people some of the other Ibm fellows. They gave me a nice sendoff…

And I immediately ran upstairs and rang the bell…

It seemed like the thing to do :-)

thanks To everyone who reached out to me in the last couple of days… It means so much to me. I miss you all but I’ll be back part time in two weeks

Wednesday night (delayed) – generators

This week weeding up to my retirement has been insanely busy. As much as I found it sometimes hard to work at this company… Leaving it was even twice the work. So much logistics to work out… And because I’ve been there so long honestly I’m finding it hard to find people in the company who know how to advise me on decisions I need to make for retirement.… I think I have everything worked out… But honestly new Rules and limitations keeps popping up all that said… The company has been incredibly kind and generous and for that I’m truly grateful I’m looking forward to the transition when I’m there part time. I’ll have to be very careful about choosing where to put my efforts… But I’m looking forward to that opportunity to concentrate and what matters most to me… Which is out reach to the public about technology and science.

speaking about outreach to the public… This evening we had a really nice social gathering for the board and staff of the generator makerspace… Like everybody else we’ve been meeting virtually through the pandemic and our only just now able to get together in person for meetings… We decided we had to get together just for fun. We all met at red square and had a couple of beers just catching up. It was really nice… And as I said this week… I’m particularly nostalgic so this was very nice shot of warmth

tuesday night (delayed) – bowls

this is my last week as a full time worker at ibm. after 40’years it’s the only thing i’ve known .. it feels surreal to be leaving .. but i’m so excited about the change .. i’ll definitely miss all my friends at the company .. but i’ll still be working there one day a week which cuts the pain for sure

i’m extra introspective this week as i move towards that tradition. tonight diane taught an excellent yoga class with soup afterwards .. the group of folks gathered for dinner felt extra cozy to me somehow
