Great full day on the island… Went for a morning run… And people started showing up. Ryan was there which is always fun spent the day lazing around swimming some hiking some and then getting ready for the first burn. Moyers had created another beautiful subtle burn… It was a wicker structure with a burlap hand… Essentially a hand holding a torch. It had nine candles in it and the structure wouldn’t burn until one of the candles burned all the way down.
We ended up waiting three hours to watch it burn… It was worth the wait
Had a super busy workday… But as soon as I could get out I strapped Ben’s boat on the car and headed out to kill Kare… To paddle out to fire and water. Gizzo Paddled back in to give me an escort out… It’s only about 2 1/2 miles but it’s nice to have somebody to paddle with. It was still pretty quiet on the island… There’s a perfect night to slow down and get ready to camp
Quiet day… Payel and I did a major harvest of the gardens. I’m giving ‘Diane frequent remote tours of the gardens… They’ve never been this lush. We have so many blueberries and tomatoes. She’s glad we’re eating them
So… Today marks my 40th anniversary of starting at IBM. I can vividly remember my first day walking into the building on August 3, 1981… I remember they let me shoot a fire extinguisher add a chair as part of our safety training… That’s probably one of the most important things I learned at Ibm…
Honestly it’s been a really great ride. challenging, entertaining.. Sometimes bewildering….. never boring.. and (almost) always fun. I think I’m at 80 countries and counting…for work related travel, Thousands of friends… And four decades very cool technology.
I woke up feeling very very grateful for having found this job, in such a wonderful place… and such wonderful people…
I even met the love of my life Diane courtesy of Ibm.
thanks to all the folks who wrote to mark my 40th .. I think you can see some of what they said and a whole lot of pictures here
Wow.. 40 years.. ..I swear it only feels like 39 !
