Friday night – feels like Friday

Busy but low stress day here in the rose city. Diane and I walked to the store on the way to Gabe’s and picked up supplies for the day. We got to Hanes in time for a short work out.. the. We walk headed to abbot and Amy’s very cool retro house . It was built in the early 1960/ as an example of the modern all electric home it has electric ceiling heat,. Electric oven and built in electric mixer . They’ve decorated it in exotic retro . It’s such a fun place . They made Latkes with home made hot sauce .. really yummy. We also got to see their dog Ripley

Then home to hang up at the house. We took one more big grocery run and prep for getting some folks together tomorrow… I got to meet GabÉ’s new neighbor Ted who went to see him you it is a robot guy.

Tonight we walk back to Hawthorne and try to go eat at car Topia and then another food cart court… They both were so full we ended up eating at “Lardo’s”… A place open by a guy who is from Vermont. It was pretty good… On the way home we walk through the “partition” and looked at the roses… On the way we found some junk out on the curb including a real life holster a bunch of belt buckles some shot glasses etc.… Score!

OK… Going to bed now. More tomorrow

Wednesday night (delayed) – stone cutting

Super nice day hanging out with max, GabÉ and diane I. pOrtland . the hilight of the day for me was a stone cutting lesson from GabÉ. He’s teaching me to make a polished bird bath. You start by carving out a bowl shape in the rock using a diamond saw . Lots of noise and flying debris . What’s not to like ?!?

Diane made yummy pizza for lunch and we ate on the porch. Such beautiful weather !

I found this awesome face in one of the pieces of artichoke .. meet the artichoke king !

We all took a walk to the store and took advantage SoC being out to sightsee : flowers , biker memorials , tr es and cupcakes …lots to see

The night ended with us taking a all to burnside . We got there as all the restaurants were closing so we found a great fish and chips place, got take out and took it to a middle school playground and ate … really a great meal !

We then headed home for a drink at the gin alley . Max found a glass Buddha head on the way !

then an hour of looking through all purr newly online photos and movies .. great to do that together

Ok .. this is a day late. I’ll cwt h up with today tomorrow

Thursday night – long fun day In Portland

Woke up early because I was on a thesis defense this morning. The meeting went pretty well. The good news is the student passed His defense well!

And then met up with the rest of the family around 11

Dennard made a scrumptious breakfast… Massage kale for us and something with bacon for the boys

Max headed off to visit friends so keep dying and I had it down into the Columbia River Gorge on the Washington side to climb Mount Hamilton

We got back to town and dropped by GabÉ’s lab for him to do a quick cell culture procedure… When we went back to the house and met up with sam

We grabbed Sean and Fabian and we all walked over to Cubo… A great Cuban place down in Hawthorne

Then Gabe, Sam, ‘Diane and I did a long walk to view the “yarn bombs” that Nana amy does on Alder Street… She needs fabric around these trees as a show of some thing… Not quite sure what but it’s very cool

Put a cool, beautiful, and very interesting city this is… OK time for bed.

Tuesday night – Around Portland

We had a great day hanging out with Gabe… ‘Diane did a little guided work out for the three of us this morning… Then gabe went off to work. ‘Diane and I helped out by doing a dump run of stuff that was in Gabe’s basement. Visiting this huge city drop off center makes me never want to buy anything again .

GabÉ came home a little early from work and we worked outside… What are the main things we got done was putting up some of his huge roses

For dinner we decided to pick up takeout at the food trucks and hike up Mount Tabor

Our visit to Mount Tabor also included seen the statue of York… The first African American man to cross the US. He was a slave who worked with the party of Louis and Clark… He sounded like an amazing man. The statue itself was put there by an unknown artist after a previous statue was toppled. I guess there’s still quite a lot of mystery about it… It was pretty moving to see

You Jan read about it here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bust_of_York

We watched the sunset over Portland… And ate our food which was fun

We hiked back down and drove back to Gabes house… Where I started showing game all of our digitized pictures and movies. We got hooked on trying to label more of the faces in Google photos…… And we also started watching some of the old movies including Diane my wedding video.

So much fun to look at that old stuff

OK… Time for bed

More tomorrow from this wonderful city
