Saturday night – Taft hill

This morning we headed over to Jen and Tim’s to see some of Jan’s family. Her sisters nan and coco and her brother Marty and his wife sue we’re up visiting. The women put on hunters orange and went for a hike up to Rand Road… The rest of us put on our reflective gear river bikes down to Huntington and up Taft Hill… It was quite a climb for a bunch of us who weren’t buried by condition but it was worth it. The foliage was beautiful. I even saw a sloth in a tree… Well not a real sloth 🙂

we got home to find the ladybugs tryin to steal our house !

i’d hate these things if they weren’t so damned cute…
no scratch that.. I Do hate these things

Friday night – Charlie Hill trail and friends

we spent the rainy day working on the house. and I spent some time reworking the code for a demo at work.. something I really enjoy doing.

kate afternoon we decided we had to get outside. Dianes goal was to get some sun on the trail.. but by the time we got to little river the hills were pretty well in the shade. We decided to hike any way.. and ended up following  the Charlie Hill trail (I think).. it was. wide nd groomed trail that looked liek it could be used by a  wheel chair.. it mapped the old WPA worksite that used to be here.. it was quite beautiful.. t the end of the trail we found a smaller , rougher trail that took us to the most spectacular. water falls  . water slides. and crossings  We’d never seen them.. after so many years of exploring this part of the state. We bushwacked up through the mountain all the way up to the woodard road…  and walked down that

at the bottom of that long road we amazingly ran into our freinds ellen, will and julia… with their dog tiny.. It was pretty incredible to run in to them as we came out of the woods and they just happened to drive by on a place 25 miles from their home. .. We jumped in their car and went up and explored the waterbury dam for a while. so beuetiful in the late light

So niice seeing our friends.

Thursday night – Isaac, susan and sophia

Our friends Issac, susan and their beautiful daughter Sophia cam e buy to say good bye to us tonight . Isaac has just finished a post doc in mechanical engineering at UVM and thought. he’d found a good job wiht an acoustics analysis company in the mid west. Isaac left his uvm job and they sold all their belongings in preparation to move. . A serious roadblock came up when the hiring company realized that isaac and susan were  Iranian nationals and didn’t have  green cards.. so the company put the job offer on hold. Luckily Isaac was able to write to Senator Leahey’s office and get help facilitating the Green card process… Isaac and Susan  just heard that their green cards came through and they’re back to the plan. They came by to say good bye.. though I think we will always remain in touch.

We’re so excited for them  !

Wednesday night – the ladybugs ariveth

We live in a big old house.. there was a time when this time of year our house was mobbed by black flies.. over the years.. and perhas due to climate change, the infestation has changed to ladybugs.. or actually ‘ladybird beetles’. They may be more colorfull, but they are even more annoying  than flies. They are EVERYWHERE.. and you get dive bombed when you go outside.

We had to escape.. so we went and climbed Bolton to see the now past peak foliage.. then out to Sakuras for some mid week sushi !

Ps. the cup says ” Nana korobi, ya oki” which means “Fall down seven times, stand up eight.”..  We learned about that message from our friend Sho !
