Wednesday night – end of an era

Today was the last day possible to move my remaining stuff out of my IBM storage room. For many. many years I’ve kept  my science kids stuff there.. Even though  IBM sold the plant to Global Foundries in 2014, there is still a small contingent of IBMers still ehre. I beleive it’s about 250 people there.. a far cry from the 8200 we had at the peak.  There have been IBMers at this site since 1957.. two years before I was born.  The last IBMers had to move out of the plant at this point since the company decided not to renew the lease. I had great help from Diane, Dave R from IBM .. and my good Beta friends Jake and Evan. Evan had been at IBM for 18 years so he know his way around. We were able to move all the stuff pretty easily. Jake and Even had brought a BETA truck and trailer which was so great. It was raining by the time we got out..

It was pretty strange walking  around Building 965.. This place used to be the busiest part of the plant.. now it was empty aisles, vacant office’s and piles and piles of unwanted stuff.

One nice coincidence is that my old team was also there that day to clear out there spaces.. and to have a pizza party. We were able to come together to share memories and catch up  We even had a picture from 1992 that  many of us were in (I was not.. dont remember why). we did a small reenactment to mark the end of an era.

So many memories.. most of them really good.
What a long strange trip its been. !

Tuesday morning – heading home

Today we headed back to Vermont. It has been a really great trip.
We took a quick dip in the hot tub, then headed towards the airport. We stopped at an old  favorite restaurant .. Antoine’s .. for po-boys (aka subs). This was a satellite store. Nothing like the sprawling Lebanese delicatessen of my youth. That place was so cool to explore.. I think it still exists.. just in a different part of town. That said.. the po-boys were still delish’ !

Flight home was uneventful.. just caught up on work

What a great trip !

Monday night – back to Houston

Diane and I woke up in time to catch the sunrise.. even got a movie of it 🙂

We all spent the day  cleaning out the houses.. 18 people can really make some epic messes !   It was fun talking while we did it.   Even took time to work on a puzzle together.

We left for Houston about sunset and headed to billy and shawns. We picked up some  sushi for dinner .. Cousin Leslie and Brett came by to say hi too. So great seeing them !

heading home early tomorrow

Sunday night – crabbing

Family started leaving today. John. Mary, Ellery, Jake, Theo and Mom headed back to Minnesota.. yesterday.. . Diane and I woke up at 4 to take Gabe and Sam to the Airport  which was nearly  2 hours drive  . The rest of us had a quiet day of crabbing in billy and shawn’s swamp land. Bill took a shot at drone fishing. He used his drone to drop bait about 300 yards off shore.. Pretty cool. Max heraded out in late afternoon. It was so good seeing those guys !

Nice family time
