Wednesday night – end of an era

Today was the last day possible to move my remaining stuff out of my IBM storage room. For many. many years I’ve kept  my science kids stuff there.. Even though  IBM sold the plant to Global Foundries in 2014, there is still a small contingent of IBMers still ehre. I beleive it’s about 250 people there.. a far cry from the 8200 we had at the peak.  There have been IBMers at this site since 1957.. two years before I was born.  The last IBMers had to move out of the plant at this point since the company decided not to renew the lease. I had great help from Diane, Dave R from IBM .. and my good Beta friends Jake and Evan. Evan had been at IBM for 18 years so he know his way around. We were able to move all the stuff pretty easily. Jake and Even had brought a BETA truck and trailer which was so great. It was raining by the time we got out..

It was pretty strange walking  around Building 965.. This place used to be the busiest part of the plant.. now it was empty aisles, vacant office’s and piles and piles of unwanted stuff.

One nice coincidence is that my old team was also there that day to clear out there spaces.. and to have a pizza party. We were able to come together to share memories and catch up  We even had a picture from 1992 that  many of us were in (I was not.. dont remember why). we did a small reenactment to mark the end of an era.

So many memories.. most of them really good.
What a long strange trip its been. !

nite all, nite sam
