tuesday night

Pretty uneventful day. Worked most ot the morning for BETA.. Got a run in..

THen Mel and Shawn met us at Nicholas middle eastern place.. It always so good to see them !

I knew the resturant well because it was there that I realized I was coming down with covid here on my last birthday !.. It was nice to come back as I don’t remember much of that first visit.. I remember I couldn’t eat much !

Beautiful view of the moon and venus tonight.

Its really nice to be here !

monday night – Microwave 1

Today I worked remotely for BETA,.. after that Diane and I worked around the house.

Gabe had two household issues we worked on. The first was a broken drawer… It was their silverware drawer and like many it was made out of stabled particle board.. (which should be outlawed). The sides had broken and there was no gluing them back together.. Fixing that took a bunch of corner bracing, glue and a makshift clamp made out of ratchet straps.. All good now.

The second problem was that the above stove microwave no longer worked. Buying a new microwave is easy.. getting it to fit in cabinetry above the microve.. not so easy. We had bought the microwave the day before,,. we ended up takign the only one in the store..

TOday we disassembled the parts of the cabinetry that needed to come down to allow the new device to be mounted. We were installing the ew device when DIane’s foot slipped on to a shelf (that we’d made in June of 2019). and it gave way.. Diane hit her face on the cabinet as she caught herself and got a small cut and bruise.. she was OK .. but the sheetrock wasn’t. The shelf took some big chunks of sheetrock with it.

We finished installing the stove then headed back to Home Depot to get a thin birch plywood panel to put beneath the shelf when we remoutnid it.. The panel hid the sheetrock damage.. and looked nice to boot !.No one even noticed it.. but we came clean.

Gabe and I christened the new microwave by heating up a piece of left-over burrito and sharing it !

Alls well that ends well !

Then Blutos greek for dinner.. yum !

sunday night – super bowlish

today also got off to  relaxed start. Breakfast was overnight waffles.. truly the best waffles you will ever eat. It’s a yeasted batter.. thats left overnight.. The waffles are amazingly light and crispy

(I did have to finish the last peice of birthday cake as well )

AFter breakfast,. Gabe unloaded his latest rocks from hs tumbler. they still have one more layevel of polish to go.. but they were already beutiful !

then it was time to get max to the airport.. It has been so fgreat having him here for this surprise visit. It means so much to me that he made this happen. I love my boys !

The rest of the day was pretty slow.. We went to home depot and bought a new over range microwave .. the only one in the store.. it turns out.. THwn qwent home and watched the last few minutes  of a bunch of big men run into each other.. and something about tayler swift ?

another great extended birthday day..
more tomorrow

saturday night – penguin plunge

Woke up slowly today.. then headed over to Gabes.. On the way Diane and I went in to check out the fire house museam thats just a few doors down from gabe. I’ve always wanted to visit. It had an amazing amoutn of stuff.. very well curate in a tiny spave. We especially liked the fire truck simulator.. it was very realistic.. and it just used two screens and the body parts of a real truck

they had lost of artifacts including this toy truch that sort of survivied a fire

We cooked breakfast then headed out for a hike to .. Lost Lake (was that what it was called ? )

On the road there we saw multonomah falls.. we have great memories of this place.. tehre’s a great picture of sam and his freinds way up tehre on the bridge

The trail we hiked was part of the pacific creat rtail.. it was a beutiful day and a pretty easy and steady climb. THe forest was beutiful.. and so were the people.

We got up to a small lake.. it was bright blue.. due to soem mineral content.. and really, really cold. That didn’t stop the cohn boyts from taking a dip. It was good timing because our burning man friends had FLuffy at the Penguin Plunge in Burlington. I’m guessing it wasn’t much colder there than here.

I love doing thi with my boys.. its a tradition. We all jumped into the winosski just before Maxs wedding !

I must point out that there was snow around when we did this

the walk back was pretty easy.. the late afternoon sun theough the trees and moss made it feel like Sasquatch was goign to come crashing out of the forest any minuit. We found these very cool fungi on the trees. Look like duck bills !

On the way home we stopped at our favorite fish resturant near bridge of the gods.. It was freezing outside. but not too cold for a shared set of fish and chips !

we got home and Gabe broke out his microscope.. He’d taken some water samples on our hike and we cound soem cool tiny creatures.. planaria and some rod like thing that was pretty cool

then we walked down to the vegan Sri Lankin place down the street. Wewe’d never been there .. and it was soooo delicious. !

from there we crossed the street to go to Movie Madness.. The last big movie rental place in Portland.. It has so many movies that they made it a non profit museam.. IUts so cool to go through there. We were after the cult classic terrible moview the 1993 version of Mario Brothers with Bob Hoskins.. Probably the worst movie ever made !

WHile looking for it.. I found a copy of the COlony season 1.. I asked the guy at the desk if it had ever been checked out.. it turns out it had.. .. just 4 times !. (but the second season disc had never been checked out 🙂

then home  to watch the movie.. Mario Brothers.  it was bad.. really bad.. check out this article in wikipedia.

its so bad.. its good

Great day !
