My friends Kasey and Ross and I have decided to build a vacuum tube Tesla coil. It’s Kaseys idea. Vacuum tubes were the first amplifying electronics device.. Vacuum tubes were invented back in 1904 by british physicist. John Ambrose Fleming.
Vacuum tubse were used up until the 1970’s for all but exotic radio transmitters (and microwave ovens now that I think of it) .. They’re coming back in to vogue for high end audio equipment. Some peopke think they give audio a warmer sound. dunno..
but building a vacuum tube tesla coil is a fun retro way to build a high voltage toy. Here’s what we’re planning to build.. Its from an article a 12 year old kid wrote back in 2012 !
We’ve started to order parts. I’ve collected these so far.
As a reminder.. I’m workign to fill in a two mointh gp I took in blogginbg after I got stuck trying to docuemnt oure trip to spain. I’m goign through workign with my memory, pohotos and calander to recall each day and record it here..
SOemtimes,. liek today its a bit hazy what I was doing.. From these pictures it looks like I spoke with my freind Andrea in Germany, admired some art and a new panini press in our St Albans lab.. Repaired the Eel 25 foot keyboard in freind Mikes basement .. and admired Dianes glow in the dark petunias at night
A busy day for a Sunday. Diane and I took a quick hike up Bamforth to get soem exercise
went back in to help at the 2nd day of the Green Mountain Feilddays. .. Mostly hiung out at the STEM fair.. It was great to see so many families !
Mid afternoon we headed over to Yate orchard in monkton to introduce Sho to the Dreamy . Its maple soft serve icecream served over a hot cider donut. Only served during apple picking season. Yum !
later that night we all went to Tim and Jen’s for dinner. We brought Jen a piece of drift wood we’d found at the bolton dam last night. We’re sure she’s goign to make it into soemthing beautiful .
