Super fun techie day.. In early afternoon my Hackclub friends Micah, River and Micah’s mom Rachel came for a visit. We geeked out on PCB’s and code.. and managed to squeeze in a tour of the house. Micah gave me their latest version of the fidget spinner pcb.. and Rachel gave us a light up fluffy card she made and a circuit board she designed to light art ! I’ll treasure them all !
While they were visiting I saw that Umiak had resumed their tubing service even though the Winooski is still running pretty brown and snaggy from the storms
Towards evening , friends Kasey and Ross came over and we started for real on our Vacuum Tube Tesla projects. It was really fun looking at my other Tesla coils, scrounging for circuit diagrams.. then buying parts. It’s going to be an awesome build. They have a great design for the thing as a centerpiece in the house they own together.
I’m really looking forward to this project !
While we were working, DIane spotted a giant Rat in our blueberries.. We named him “Atticus” .. and don’t mind him .. as long as he stays outside !
Began the day with a check on the basement.. We still have water pooling down there after a ton of new work.. we need to talk to the folks who did the work to come back and make sure its fixed
Went for a nice bike ride down Duxbury road.. We’re trying to add more biking to compliment our running and hiking. I have my dad’s old bike.. diane has my mom’s.. so far they are just fine. Fun seeing our road from a bike. I always see something new..

Got home .. DIane went up to Jens to work on some tiles they’re making, so I started working on Fluffy documentation (ugh !).. When I heard a knock on the door. It was our friends and former neighbors Mark and Deb. They were my neighbors in Hinesburg in 1981 (!).. then neighbors here in Jonesville where they owned the sawmill across the street. It was really great catching up with them . They’ve moved down to Florida now.. and are enjoying life. Mark’s building a new shop next to their house. He loves working with his hands. THey’re up for a family reunion.. Super good catching up
Just as Mark and Deb were leaving, Brendan W and his GF showed up. They live in Chatenooga now.. where Brendan works on doing methane capture from landfills. It was great catching up with he two of them.. Gave them a tour of the house which was fun..
Later in the day, DIane and I drove down to Fluffy to check on a few things.. Top of the list was figuring out what to do with the fire organ I inherited from one of Max’s friends. We’d traveled down to NYC last year to retrieve it.. then shuffled it from friend Johns rock working shop down to Earthkeep where it’ sat with Fluffy for a year. Honestly,, with fluffy and other projects I just haven’t had a chance to unpack it and get it working. Now we’re getting kicked out of Earthkeep by the new owners.. I have to find a home for this beast.. (it’s 2′ x 3′ x 8′ and weighs about 500 lbs !) ..
We opened the crate and took a look. I was wondering if we should scrap it , find another place to store it, or re-home it. . . It really is a thing of beauty.. it would be a shame not to get it used.. This week I need to find a good home for it ! (anyone out there need a musical fire organ ? )
We’d planned the trip to fluffy as part of a strategic circle so we could meet our freinds George and Jane,.. and their daughter and son in law and grand Alex, Josh and Asher. |
They live in a beutifulplace on Dorset street in Shelbourne. It was really nice hanging out with them and their respective doggies Milo and Luna.
Quick hike up bamforth trail and up Gleason brook this morning.. got it in before it got to hot
Later in the afternoon we rode our bikes to the farmers market in Richmond. It was great looking around. I haven’t been there in years. We ran in to our good friend Lauren. She’s growing her cheesecake business and it’s going well. She and John just redid their basement to make it a commercial kitchen.
Today as he was there with her latest invention ..
CHEESCAKE ON A STICK !
It may sound weird.. but it was sooo good. It was perfectly triangular and covered with a thin chocolate shell. They were perfect.. Lauren told us about the manufacturing process.. She found a way to thin the chocolate so it flowed well and still hardened.
NIce bonus.. Lauren, John and Deb came over for dinner….
I’m getting to work with my old friend and neighbor Chris. .. Chris grew up with our kids.. It’s so fun to get to do a. project with him .
On the topic of connections.. Diane and I are writing a debugging guide for the fluffy lights .. I want to make sure they know how to debug any issues that come about.. I’m doing lots of staring at cables to see how I’ve messed them up in the past..
