Diane and I woke up early and went for a short run to explore our neighborhood.. Such a cute place.. we’re a short walk between two two parks.. There’s a very cool little zoo and science museum.
we found a red bull bottle .. which always is like a wink from Sam
Around 10 we drove out to sunnyvale to pick up Laurance (aka Lolo) at the honda dealership where her car was getting some work. The three of us headed up to black mountain just outside of sunnyvale. We ended up taking a beautiful 13 mile hike up and back to the top of black moutnain where you could see the pacific ocean !
It was great getting the time with Laurence.. ! We’re very compatible hikers.. same speed.. !
!3 miles felt soooo good . Wew went back to Rafes and Laurnces and had a great dinner\. We spent hours hanging out and talking..
we had so much fun talkign about old times and old friends. We talked lots abotu his parents.. they were such great peope.. I miss them
so glad to see him doign so well. More hanging out tomorrow !
This morning diane and I said goodbye to the snow before Jen came by and took usto the airport. We’re heading out to the west coast for a week and a half of seeign freinds, teachning classes and seeing family.
Our flight out to SFO went through dulles. We had enough time to go to one of our favorite airport lounges.. the Turkish Air Lounge in the D concourse . (one of the cool thing about the travel status we have is we can use many other airlines lounges). We had a middle eastern feast before geting on the long flight to California
THe flight out was long ~ 6 hours) and productive.. I worked the entire way.. mostly programming. Didnt look outside until we were about to land
got to SFO and headed out to the car rental building. Caught site of a place i’d once filmed a movie for an IBM project I was doing
That also reminded me that I’d once taken off from here in a Lufthansa 777 for a conference that took place on a plane. !.. We took over the top section of the giant plane and helpd a conference complete with presentations, question from the audience and special snacks. THe folks on the rest of the plane were invited to join in .. I found a few write-ups about it online here
We got our car.. and headed down to palo alto and got settled in to the airbnb.. As soon as we were settled we went over to see rafe and laurence .. It was so good seeing them. Rafe is recovering from some intense surgery ..

We hung out for a couple of hours.. then headed back to the airbnb .. Super glad to be here .

One of the things that happened when we paid off our house yesterday ius that now we become responsible for buying our own flood insurance. Bacxk when the bank decided we needed it, they baught it for us (using our moeny of course).. now its up to us.
I remember that when we baught the place we were not considered in the flood hazard zone..
now 43 years later we are.. It
our flood insurance bill is proof that climate change is real…
now if we could get our government to remember that ! nite all. nite sam -me
Today was really special.. We became homeowners in the real sense I baught our house in August of 1982 for $60,000 .. Since that time we’ve been dutifully paying our mortgae includign at least 4 refinances we did to upgrade the house .. we hadded soem of the modern convieinces that most houses have…
like heat .. 🙂
Today we finally paid of the last bit of that mortgage. A nice officernamed Belle at Eastrise Credit Union (nee New England Federal Credit Union) did the honors. .. with no fanfare, we did the last transfer and this crazy home was truly ours..
And like that.. just 43 years latgr we owned our home !
