We woke early and did a fast hike up honey hollow.. Work today was busy and fun.. THen tonight we had a fluffy meetup.. THe idea was to discuss how this burn went.. and discuss what was next for Fluffy.
it was great to have everyone together again. We ate then got down to business.
It was fun to relive soem stories from the playa…. we discussed what worked and what didnt for the camp and fo fluffy. Overall, people agreed that fluffy performed well We agreed we need to do soem work on the light patterns we are using.. which should be fun to do
the biggest discussion was abotu how much work we might take on .. lots of discussions includeing proposals to try to clean the dust oout of the clouds.. all the way up to rebuilding the clouds completely/ We have soem exeriemtns to do aroudn cleaning.. but i’m hopeing we dont commit to any major rework beyond tha.t. I don t thingk people have the energy or time for another compelte summer of work
we also discussed where fluffy should live..: there are 2 choices we discussed:
a) one thought was to continue business as usual.. which involves. Duane paying rent to the warehouse in charlotte where flufdfy is parked.. , doing soem local events and transporting her back and forth to the playa each year.. .
b)THe other thoguht is to take her out to playa next year and find a place to park her there.. that would dramatically reduce the cost of rent here in VT and the cost/effort of getting her out and back.. The down side would be that anything beyond basic maintenance would be hard to do remotely..
the agreement (I think) is to try a) this year and see how qe feel about b) when the burn come around late summer..
Today was a big day for BETA !. Most of us gathered in our manufacturing building to hear. our Boss Kyle, and key members of our board announce that BETA will be doing an initial public offering in the next several weeks…
the excitment in the room was AMAZING !!!!!
everyone has been imagining this day since they began workign here.. and it’s finally goign to happen !!!!
We have to be careful what we all say publicly… but i’ll just say that I certainly believe in BETA !!!
it was funny to pivot and turn back to our work after that .. but we all had stuff to do.. I’m workign on soemthign really fun now.
I stopped at homedepot for soem parts and ran into my good freind Dave H.. He’s the guy who made the davenport model for BETA. Great catching up with him !
woke up refreshed after a great sleep in the tent.. I was the first one up so I went down and pumped soem water from the lake to use for breakfast. It was super peaceful
my friends woke up over the next hour or so and we began making breakfast. everythign tastes better outside.. !
after breakfast we packed up and got back in the boats.. On the way out I put a samstone in a rack that you could only reach by boat. Sam would love it here.
we paddled back across round lac and then under thebridge to get to little tupper. We headed back to the ranger station … we all had stuff to do back home.. so even though it was just early afternoon we decided to pull in the boats and pack out..
We had a great lunch and said our goodbyes..
it was a nice ride home. I was listening to a great book called “the alignment problem” by Brian Christian.. it’s abotu the challenge of developing AI that respects our values… whatever those are.
Woke early and started driving west. I’m meeting up with gizzo, ben and newt for a smaller version of our annual kayak/canoe camp. THose guys went out two days earlierr.. got rained out the first night then camped last night. I was going to meet them on little tupper lake aroudn 12:30. It was a beutiful drive.
I stopped near tupper lake to rent a one person paddle boat canoe. then met up at more or less the appointerd time. The guys were there just starting lunch. We packed up and headed up little tupper to the narrow channel to Round lake (which isnt round at all !)

we paddled for a couple of ours looking at the designated campng locations.. there werent many (7 I think) and most were full.. Luckily we found campsite 5 at the northern most end of the lake and it was free..
What a beautiful spot !!
we set up camp.. aas were doign that.. a guy named John from the nearest camp wandered over to say hi.. nice guy !
As usually happens.. ben took over as cook. the guy with no sense of smell loves making food that he can hardly taste for the rest of us.. and he’s very. very good at it !
Just after dinner the sun began to set… beutiful sunset Q
