Thursday night – EnMed

Woke up early and hung out at Billy and Seans.. Berto and Andy were the only ones up. Nice catching up with Berto

Fun seeing Billy’s projects.. Here’s his skeleton halloween zoetrope in pieces. I helped wiht the motor driver stuff. .. fun and creepy !

this house is such a fun place to visit !

Aroudn 9:30 Billy and Iheaded to the Enmed meeting. We are both on the board of the EnMed Medical school of Texas A&M .. Its an amazing program where students get an MD and a masters of bio engineering.

we had a great meeting. the topic today was the role of AI in medical Education,. We herd soem great talks today about how AI is helping nursing and medicine..  at the same time it’s changign the nature of Medicine. Many of the the things traditionally done by doctors can now be relagted to AI,,, and this is causing a shift in peoples interest in goign in to medicine. EnMed wants to be a leader in using AI as part of Medical training,, and medical devices.. That’ll be a challenge.. but a good one.

After the meeting we headed over to the Center for Device Innovation.. its the innovation lab that billy runs for Texas medical center,.

CDI is full of amazing ongoing projects, and history about past projects and Billy’s career, All really impressive !

Heres Billy with Micheal Debakey and Denton Cooley.. the worlds two most famous heart surgeons (so far 🙂

Our biys are up there too

Here’s the bivacor heart that Billy is working on .   Its in human test righ now.. Its the most advanced artificial heart ever made.

My favorite thing here is the prototype of the central line robitc device that billy and Built together during the  pandemic. he did the mechanical design and Idid the electronics and software. We mailed it back and forth multiple times.. then I programmed and tuned it remotely from Vermont .

Based on that prototype and early human testing . On the basis of that, billy was able to  raise money and start a company Obvius Robotics .

Those guys happened to be visiting Houston today to do some human testing .. I got a demo of their production device.. So amazing to see this !

Around 4 I headed to the airport. The   government shutdown is causing a ton of delay in TSA.. so Iwanted to be there in time

Igot through Check in and TSA in under 15 min.. so Ihad a nice 3 hour hang out in the houston airport..

I cant forget .. This used to be my home airport..

Now heading to Portland to see DIane and Gabe !

Thursday night – EnMed

Had a great night sleep .. then hung out in the mornign with Berto.. their house is such a cool museum

the enmed meetign was very interesting. EnMed is a Texas A&M Med  school where med students also graduate with a masters in bioengineering. Its a wonderful fasiility with advance maker space and faculty from many disciplines of sceince. Our board members are a combination of MD’s , Engineers, and Entrepreneurs. An amazing group.. i’m very honored to be in this group

after the meeting we headed to CDI.. the entrepreneurial biomedical lab that billy helps run for the the texas medical center. As it happens, two guys from Obvius, the emdical robotics company that is based on one of Billys inventions. He and I made the prototype    together durign covid. we mailed it back and forth as he did the 3d prigts, and Idid the electronics and software. .. Based on the prototype billy helped create a company called Obvius robotics  .

it was wonderful seeing how our crude prototype became this elegant machine which is now in human tests.

it was great seeign all of billys history stuff around here

Iheaded out to the airport about 4:30.. to avoid the delayscaused by the shutdown . Spent soem tiem wondering aroudn the houston airport. ,,

my flight to portland was abotu 4 hours.. it passed quickly bacuase Ihad work , code and blogging to do

gabe picked bne up at the airport and took me to the airbnb.. its nice to be here
